Another nice breakfast at our hotel then set out on foot today to walk the 22.5 kms to Portomarin. Left the hotel at just after 9 and had to climb up dozens of stairs to start the walk. It was very foggy again for the first few hours but gorgeous walking through the mist. The scenery was agin spectacular. We walked through forest, farmland and lots …
... the village streets required gentle and strategic steps around the piles of livestock deposits. This compiled with a wet rainy day created a fragrance that is very distinct! We took the higher route for the day and enjoyed the paths mainly to ourselves. From Sarria onwards, there will be many more pilgrims ...
... woman we met on the first day almost a month ago. One looked like one of the Russian grannies from the Eurovision Song Contest a couple of years ago and we didn't think she would get over the first mountain let alone still be going 30 days later. She looked much stronger. It's surprising the determination of some people. On the first night we also met a young girl from the US who flew up the first hill in a few hours but blew up after a few days and had to go home.
