Tríacastela, Galicia, Spain camino_2009I went with Stee and my grandmother to Lugo, a town about 50 miles from A Coruña. The old town of Lugo is surrounded by a Roman wall. Within the walled part of the town are narrow streets and old buildings. <br><br>In the late afternoon we returned to A Coruña and departed for Vigo early in the evening.
Lugo, Galicia, Spain mylifesjourney... mountain, where we stayed at an alburgue hosted by Germany. There was a fountain where you could soak your feet and a nice stone wall overlooking a valley. It was nice to relax and listen and watch a shepherd move his cows from one pasture to another. . . cow bells can always be heard in the mountains! <br> <br>Day 27 - Thursday, July 16 LaFaba - Triacastela 25 km<br> <br> Good ...
Triacastela, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands jwhit8744This was another short travel day - as good as a rest. We stopped short of the next big town - Palas de Rei- staying in the town of Eirexe. As we thought the road was very crowded with many new walkers including several large organized youth groups. At some point the path was packed with walkers including a few people who insisted on playing radios that they were carrying.<br><br>By stopping short ...
Lestedo, Galicia, Spain saskcamino10th August 2008 A shady little site in Sarria Yesterday was the longest day so far. We started in San Fiz (just outside Villafranca) and we ended up in Samos, some 60 odd kms away having gone over several passes. O Cebreiro is the main pass at 1099 mts, and that is where the main refugio is. However a bit further down the road is the Pto El Poyo which is 1337 mts. Unlike in 2001, the weather was excellent and so the views were spectacular. Our intention was to stay at O Cebreiro ...
Sarria, Spain and Canary Islands 50odd8th August 2008 Welcome to our world without hurries! San Fiz (on the way to O Cebreiro, up the big hill) Pleasantly warm Neither of us slept very well last night and for no good reason, so when the alarm went off at 0630 we both turned over and groaned. An hour later I followed Dave out of the tent, begrudgingly, and we left the campsite for Villafranca. Having picked up some info from the Tourist Info we went and bought a map of Galicia, the last Spanish map we will ...
Sarria, Spain and Canary Islands 50odd... have salad. Quite often we miss out on fresh veg either because we can get it but can't carry it, or, we simply can't get any in the little local shops or campsites where we do our shopping. We try and make a point of having some fruit everyday and milk of some kind (for the calcium) but it doesn't always work out. Things I've forgotten to mention so far: We ...
Sarria, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands 50odd... We meandered along a sometimes rocky, sometimes muddy, sometimes dirt path past farmer's fields, babbling brooks, acres of purple heather, and by the time we got to the top at 1300 meters above sea level, we had a panoramic view overlooking the valley below. It was breathtaking, despite already being out of breath! I walked with Lynne most of the way while the rest of our group forged on ahead. Lynne and I are both avid picture-takers and ...
