... as I stood in awe looking at the way the ladies move their bodies and occasionally saying things like ´Oh gosh´ and ´Good lord´ when particular moves that looked like they had popped ribs out were performed. Needless to say I have since been practising my ´funk´moves every morning in the confines of the bathroom(only place with a lock) though I doubt they will be making it to a club near anyone soon....infact- anyone ..ever! This week ...
Ubatuba, State of Sao Paulo, Brazil sara.a... week! The beaches were amazing, green tropical rain forest rolling down the cloud covered mountains that hit the white sand. The water was about 22degrees and crystal clear, and there were waves with surfers playing about. If you are in the area, Trinidade is a must. We mainly spent our time at the beach, where we had found a little tree that had a bit of shade when the sun got too much. But we ...
Trinidade, Brazil laineParadise lasted only a couple of days. On Sunday, despite its promising name, the cloud cover opened its gates and it started to rain on the Big Island. Humidity felt like 200%, and everything was damp and smelly. So I decided to move on, bought a ticket for the catamaran, and I could see a lot of people had the same idea. Luckily catamarans are quite unsinkable, just like the Titanic, and they didn´t turn anyone back who ...
Paraty, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil sabaidiiIt was really hot when we arrived at Paraty's bus station. We walked half a kilometer or so and settled on the hostel in town. The room was small but there was a pool and it was on a river and the yard was nice, with hammocks and a bar. We ate at a nice por kilo with lots of seafood and fish. Paraty is a quaint tourist town with a six block by six block old town that has rough-hewn cobblestone streets and single story buildings. Cars are prohibited there ...
Paraty, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil hippler... are magnificent villas with their own beaches and docks. Similarly private islands belonging to some of Brazils richest people are located nearby resplendent with private helipads and Abromovich-style ocean going yachts. Buzzing past the boat came regular numbers of speed boats with the Costa Verde cognoscenti sunning themselves aboard. The sea around here is warm and teeming with sea life, amongst others the unusual ´needle fish ...
Paraty, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil razandrichThe Paraty Carnaval had been a blast - four days of non-stop street party. Lost in this madness was the beautiful town of Paraty and its tranquil surroundings. At night, the Carnaval rules the stars and the cobblestone streets, but during the day, Paraty has lots more to offer. There are many nearby beaches to explore, we took a day trip to Trinidad, about an hour bus ride. The ...
Paraty, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil benguigue... party (even though beer and Smirnoff ice is flowing) is safe and secure and free spirited, which probably cannot be said for both Rio or Salvador. The next morning comes the famous Paraty Carnaval treat. Everyone headed to the nearby beach and cover themselves in mud and party starts again. The ´Bloco da Lama´ translation: mud people or cavemen, is a long tradition in Paraty. Me and Juliette did the full experience of course. More to come....
Paraty, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil panf007... as there is no running water for the foreseeable future and the electricity is intermittent leaving the place very dark and humid by night. Considering the situation though I just have to the make the best of it and make arrangements to leave to Sao Paulo with the others at the earliest opportunity, but the bus leaves in two days. But currently I feel as if the unpleasantness of the outside is mirrored in our claustrophobic cave in which ...
Paraty, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil gazanova... we are off to Ilha Grande for some island living, yippee!! Bring on the Caipirinahs! Caipirinha is Brazil's national cocktail, made with cachaça, sugar and lime. Cachaça is Brazil's most common distilled alcoholic beverage. Like rum, it is made from sugarcane. Cachaça is made from sugarcane alcohol, obtained from the fermentation of sugarcane juice which is afterwards distilled. And for the record, they are lethal as you will find out in my next entry!
