It was really hot when we arrived at Paraty's bus station. We walked half a kilometer or so and settled on the hostel in town. The room was small but there was a pool and it was on a river and the yard was nice, with hammocks and a bar. We ate at a nice por kilo with lots of seafood and fish. The Paraty Carnaval had been a blast - four days of non-stop street party. Lost in this madness was the beautiful town of Paraty and its tranquil surroundings. The next morning comes the famous Paraty Carnaval treat. Everyone headed to the nearby beach and cover themselves in mud and party starts again. The ´Bloco da Lama´ translation: mud people or cavemen, is a long tradition in Paraty. Me and Juliette did the full experience of course. More to come....

... we are off to Ilha Grande for some island living, yippee!! Bring on the Caipirinahs! Caipirinha is Brazil's national cocktail, made with cachaça, sugar and lime. Cachaça is Brazil's most common distilled alcoholic beverage. Like rum, it is made from sugarcane. Cachaça is made from sugarcane alcohol, obtained from the fermentation of sugarcane juice which is afterwards distilled. And for the record, they are lethal as you will find out in my next entry!
