Last stop before home

... other than from the coach that took us on our tour. As we left Vigo heading north along a motorway, I realized how green everywhere was compared to when we went to Rojales and the South East of Spain last year. It reminded us both of the Lake District in Cumbria.

voy a vigo

Today I´m headed for Vigo on the Northwest coast. Madrid has been good although tiring. It rained yesterday so I spent the afternoon at the Prado Museum. After that I walked forever, took a few pictures and ate some ice cream. If you´re ever in Madrid I recomend the Museo del Jamon, ham and cheese sandwich + beer = 2euros.

Oysters & Tapas in Vigo

... clean and prep the yacht after arrival in port. Out Captain is very good about getting everyone to work together to complete all the tasks at hand and to avoid a lone steward from being stuck in the laundry room for 18 hours in one day while the deck hands are off work and playing by 2 in the afternoon.

For dinner we ate Tapas in the city as well and returned to the yacht around midnight. We departed for Porto, Portugal a few hours later.

Vigo

Today our port of call was Vigo, Spain. It is in the Galicia region (northwest) and it is quite beautiful. It rains there a lot, but we had a beautiful sunny day. We had hired a guide to show us the area. The highlight of the day for me was going to a castle. It was amazing… both the building and the ...

Run to the sun

... anything but they got the hint, so it was on to the next stop which wasn't a great prospect in the rain on the mad roads. The stop we found was in the port town of Ondarroa, there were loads of other campers right on the harbor so it felt allot safer. During the night and the next morning the weather didn't seem to be getting much better so we decided to go south a bit. The weather in the north was pretty lousy, the weather certainly wasn't what we were ...

Trip South

Today we headed south.  When planning this trip I got Cadogan's guide to Northern Spain and it had 5 areas in it that shouldn't be missed in Galicia.  One of them was Tui (pronounced 2-ie) this town is on the river Mino which is the border between Spain and Portugal.  The bridge that connects the 2 countries was designed by Gustave Eiffel.  Valenca, the city in ...

Launderette, here we come

... it will be the same all along the coast. Plus it was very, very wet this morning when we were thinking about packing up. The wifi is free here so I'm sat in the bar doing mail, blog etc (you would be amazed how long this all takes by the way) and generally catching up. Dave has his little phrase book and is catching up on his Spanish. We will soon be checking out the laundry facilities. Tomorrow we will be heading south nudging closer to Portugal. Laters PS we've done just over 1000 kms

Friend #3

... He was a bit confused as to why I was there, I guess, especially considering that the last time I'd been there was before he was born. The next few days were a whirlwind of tourism and catching up and doing the huge summer sales that started. With Monchy, Miriam and Oscar, I saw Baiona, had fresh oysters, went to the train station and the saint on the mount. With Pedro, Henar and Pedro's girlfriend, we hit the Old City as well as having tapas and going to a bar on a weekday.

Monday: learning about my family here in Spain

... in the river...still clear as mineral water!) so we ventured down a somewhat wild path to see. The remains of the mill is there (when he was a kid my father helped install one of the milling stones), water was clear, beautiful rapids and backdrop . We then went to see my granparents graves. They passed in ´61 and ´62 followed by my great grandma in ´63, so I never had a chance to meet them. While I have been there before it was a ...
