... waves. It was a great feeling and really nice to know how to do it. The lesson had certainly been worth it. We had the same lunch as yesterday - shrimps and chicken kebabs with garlic bread...deliciously simple and tasty. Fortified with a bit of food I went to try some surfing again, there were few waves and even the good guys didn't catch many. So back to shore I went to help Do continue with her fitness regime. This time she wanted to run up the steps - 176 steep steps to the top. ...

... It was great fun. But tiring...man, that paddling back out to where Jonathan waited for us in the surf was hard work and certainly strained muscles that I didn't know I had! After a bit of a rest we tried again, this time without Johnathan's help. It turned out that him choosing the right wave and giving us a helpful push was essential for us beginner surfers. After our huge lunch we weren't too hungry, so settled on a few plates of very tasty Brazilian tapas. We then wandered around the streets a bit. It was winter and as such low season in Pipa. Weatherwise all this meant was that it rained (for 2 months of the year) and was just a couple of degrees cooler. But the rain ...

Having had such a broken night we slept late until 10 am and only just made it to breakfast. It had rained most of the night, but the day was sunny (and windy). We got our first glimpse of our Pousada and it was lovely. Set in the back streets of Pipa it was a peaceful oasis of palm trees, stone and dark wood, with a lovely little plunge pool. We didn't hang around though and went in search of a decent cup of coffee. We hadn't had one yet but miracle ...

... of standing for 90 minutes after achieving a 9 mile walk seemed impossible. Bruce ran and got me a vodka and coconut water and damn if that didn't taste good. Maybe because it was ice cold or just a simple flavored drink, but that set me right for the rest of the evening.

After the game was over, we all fetched cabs back to the house for a late night dinner of pizza from Paprikas and pool party at our house.

The night of the Japan vs. Greece game we headed to ...
