The group headed out earlyish and first visited Michel's friend Evencios and his mother Aulis. They live in a beautiful home in Recife. Aulis has a stunning room with crosses on all walls! Really incredible. Then we headed out in 2 cars inland from Recife to a little town to watch Spok Frevo Orquestra rock their carnaval. A song to remember was "Ultimo Regresso." It was a special day…

We finally get to the ...

Macieo is a pretty little coastal city. Lots of parks scattered around the city that have similar looking benches and trees surrounded by similar looking streets and buildings. Needless to say I spent much of my time wandering around the city trying to find my dingy little hotel. Being lost is annoying, yet being lost and having diarrhea adds to the frustration. Since my hotel was the smallest and cheapest one in the city many ...

... mode of driving by choosing to follow the smaller, slower state roads which are often in a much better state of repair and are relatively free of onerous traffic. Often hugging the stunning coastline, our route took us north out of Salvador, past endless sleepy fishing villages, until we reached one of the most famous beaches of Pernambuco State - Porto de Galinhas. It was a quiet week for us - a week for reflection, and a week of discoveries. We discovered the ...
