The group headed out earlyish and first visited Michel's friend Evencios and his mother Aulis. They live in a beautiful home in Recife. Aulis has a stunning room with crosses on all walls! Really incredible. Then we headed out in 2 cars inland from Recife to a little town to watch Spok Frevo Orquestra rock their carnaval. A song to remember was "Ultimo Regresso." It was a special day…

When we arrived the beach was incredibly windy, not like the ideal surf conditions Tom was promised but it was still a beautiful, largely untouched beach where they can get away with charging you R$40 for a sandwich, crips and a drink (roughly 20 pounds!). ... One beach faces the Atlantic while the other beach swings around to the river flowing into the ocean. The water was greenish. Not the most beautiful beach I have seen but still nice. Maybe the contributing author went to Gunga on a better day. The taxi driver was creepy at times, and my stomach was bubbling violently at times, but for the most part it was a good day. Restless and wanting to move onto Rio. I flew off the next ...

... in Porto de Galinhas couldn't have been more of a contrast to our recent beach experience at Edmundo's Cabanas. Peace and tranquillity was replaced with the hubbub of thousands of revellers anxious to celebrate Brazil's Independence Day on September 7th . Thinking ourselves to be totally incognito amongst the throngs, imagine our surprise when we just happened (not only once, but twice) to run into Gláucio - one of the divers we had met in the whale watching village ...
