The roof of the hospice was amazing it was tiled with bright colours that made a very interesting pattern. I think i had seen a pictured of this place in a book i have about France because i recognised it. Before we entered the hospice and were waiting outside we bumped into a couple of people from New Zealand. It was really cool, i was just talking with them for bit about what we were all doing in France and one ...
... a frozen picture that doesn't require speaking). The girls there were all very nice and tried their best to explain things in english for me although they only know a little bit. Then i caught the bus by myself for the way back. Which is the first time i have ever done that, and definately the first time in another country and so i was quite proud of myself =) but God was definately looking after me =)
love you all and miss you

I got to Dijon at about 1840. My guidebook said the tourist office would be open until 1900 so I could get a map but it closed at 1830. Luckily I had copied down the directions to the hostel from the internet just in case. I had to take two buses. However, the second bus' monitor wasn't working and it was only by chance that I turned to look at the name of the next stop which I thought was mine, and so got out. Lucky I did though because I found that the bus ...
... count! In Besancon, we visited the Musee du Temps (museum of time) which houses many time pieces through the centuries. We saw the "world's most complicated watch" . Additionally, we saw the Astronomical Clock that has 30,000 parts which run 70 dials giving 122 different indices. Amazing! Besancon is surrounded by a Citadelle /Fortress, which ...
Buffard, Franche-Comté, France chipnputtBasic plan was to get away from this freezing site promptly to allow for a long battle against the winds on the relatively short run to Dole. In reality I was a bit cold last night and woke at 5 wanting the loo. Mind over matter and made it to 7 am. Then got up and went to washrooms to find they were heated; wow that was so nice. Last night I took up residence in the dish washing area. This is lit, undercover and sheltered; sometimes they even have ...
Dôle, Franche-Comté, France i_could_walkWeds 18th March The day started so well. The sun still is shining and is giving the stonework a most rich golden colour. This city is just amazing with some beautiful buildings (I need to check whether it suffered any damage during the war?) and it definitely deserves a better viewing at some time later - who knows maybe it's the next best place to live? They have, of course, built ghastly high rise outside the city and along the Rhone is a conference centre ...
Dole, France kyriaLast night I slept soundly for about 3 hours, then lay awake for the rest of the night. At least I didn't wake up gasping for breath (as I had done the previous night). Next morning we climb the steep hill out of Namche (it feels a bit easier than it did yesterday), then the path follows the contours around the hillside (this feels very easy!) The sky is clear and we have fantastic views of the surrounding mountains - especially ...
Dole, Nepal profbrainstormDAY 8 Gokyo (4750m) to Gokyo Ri (5357m) and back to Dole (4090m) Our alarm starts beeping at 3:45am and we wear every stitch of clothing we can find. Outside we get disorientated in the pitch black night. The snow crunches underfoot and the air is a thick mist. We stumble down to the lake side and follow the edge of the lake to the path up the ridge. It's a vertical 600m ascent bu the path is only around ...
Dole, Nepal coopertrooper... toes of others. Today was a short day, we only walked for around three hours because we were quickly climbing high, so we ambled along at a slow pace. We stopped to acclimatise at a tiny village called Dole, nestled in a valley it had no more than six buildings. We picked the Yeti Inn, and got there in time for lunch, maggi packet mix tomato soup and a plate of popcorn. In the ...
