    ... smile and be thankful I have something to keep me dry. After crossing the New York border I was on a mission to get to New York City as fast as I could. I pushed some bigger mileage days and was sitting in a metro on my way to the Big Apple in no time.     ... and had a happy hour drink and appy and then went grocery shopping in Walmart. After everything was put away we walked over to the Red Line Diner and had a delicious supper. Clarence had meatball sliders, Gail had turkey, Jim had is usual fish and chips and I had friend chicken with mashed potatoes with a biscuit and veggies.     ... did find a gorgeous dressing gown reduced from $2000 to $1000 & then 50% off the lowest price but I already have a dressing gown. But it was bloody gorgeous. So Fray & I shopped together for a while, starting at about 10.30, then we split up for a while. We had warm Cinnabons (sensational) & coffee to revive us for morning tea & Philly Cheesesteaks for lunch (not a good choice). Fray was a frickin' shopping machine. She bought so much. ...

    ... have been in Poughkeepsie city as opposed to Poughkeepsie town (where we were staying). The city was like a movie set after a disaster. Clearly the GFC has had a huge impact here. When we got to our room, we were able to talk about how scared we'd been. Aside from the great food, it was really scary & unlike anything we've ever experienced. The city has no parallel in Australia that we could think of. It was so rundown. We thought we could just drive around America like we do at ...
