So, the journey starts. ( And Jan is writing this blogpost because...because) (because stef is working)
We knew we still had some gear to pack so we went to bed early (don't believe me) which resulted in an early start (11 am) the next morning. From the beginning, it was clear, that the ascent to the top of Julier pass will be the hardest uphill climb on our whole trip. It's about 620 m above Champfèr and ...

So just to get things straight. .. in spring I had a student who told me all about her amazing cycle trips around europe and how much fun they were. Long story short, she inspired me and jan to try this out ourselves. Because we worked all summer, and summer was hot, we decided that autumn would be the best time to do this trip. As ...

... 3rd October. Train travel is free with a special pass. I noticed Chris didn't give out the tickets until this morning.....just in case. St Moritz is at 1775 MASL and we are off to Alp Grum at 2091 metres and a 50 minute ride. The trains are fantastic in Switzerland.......clean and always on time with huge windows to view the passing scenery a part of the UNESCO world heritage site. A quick turnaround as it was cold and rainy, back in the train to Pontreschino, a bus to Punta ...

... train in the middle of nowhere. We were determined to make it to the Diavolezza on our last day in Switzerland so we were back on the train to the Diavolezza stop. From there, at 2000 m of elevation, a large cable car slowly crawls up to 3000 metres to an amazing view of the Diavolezza mountain area, overlooking the Bernina massifglacier. That day, joining us in our cable car was a large group of senior men dressed ...

... up 1000 m (3000 feet) to the peak. Luigi had the transportation aspect all mapped out and it was working like Swiss Clockwork...until we got off the train at the wrong stop...in the middle of nowhere. To make a long story short...the Bernina Diavolezza visit had to wait another day. The following day is when I learned how to make cheese and enjoyed watching a boy-scout beer convention at 3,000 m elevation....but that is for another ...
