... it is covered with a chocolate ganache- it was delicious, much better than the day before.

The afternoon was Greg’s choice and we went to the Bergisel Stadium which is the new ski jump facility which was opened in 2001. This was on the site of the original ski jump facility which was used for the Winter Olympics in 1964 and 1976. You went in a cable car, then a lift to the top ...
Innsbruck, Austrian Alps, Austria kiama_on_tour... I had wished that I would be able to get them home in one piece.

We walked down to the Triumphal Arch which was erected in 1765 on the occasion of the wedding of the later Emperor Leopold but his father died during the celebrations so one side depicts happiness while the other is sad. After walking through a modern shopping centre, we walked back to the hotel via a park where the kids happily played until Greg and I were getting too cold.
Innsbruck, Austrian Alps, Austria kiama_on_tour... a large room and then walked into the old town to have dinner at a restaurant that had Austrian food. The prices seem quite reasonable after Switzerland, but that might be because they are in Euros. I had a goulash which was quite nice but salty. Again German is the language used but most people speak English so we haven't had any problems. It was very cold as we walked home and Tara kept saying, I hope it snows tomorrow (it certainly felt cold enough).
Innsbruck, Austrian Alps, Austria kiama_on_tour... about these things, and she claims she is but she always gets what she asks for!) and of course he said yes, and that is how we came to stay in a very nice room with free Internet and cozy beds.

Today we walked back to the main square to check things out. It was raining lightly but it didn't stop us from having a good time. We checked out the numerous shops and went to the top of the tower. Lincoln wasn't allowed up so we had to go in shifts. You really only need 15 ...
Innsbruck, Austrian Alps, Austria travelingdiva... well as a crystal on display that is larger than my head. The exhibits in each room vary considerably. In this case I think the pictures describe the museum much better than I can. Once at the end of the museum rooms, the visitor must pass through the showroom and store before leaving the facility. Mom and I had a lot of fun in the store and the men waited patiently for us to decide on ...
Wattens, Tyrol, Austria travelingdiva... alps and in an out of towns, we were passed by packs of Italians on BMWs mostly riding GS bikes. The problem was that they were great at passing us as well as cars through towns with barely inches to spare and with on- coming traffic, but once out of the towns they rode slowly through the great curving parts of the highway and we ended up passing them all again. It was very frustrating as these are some ...
Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany kochwebb... too.
The rest of the tour took us to Linderhof castle and Neuschwanstein castle. What magical looking places they were. Neuschwanstein is the castle Walt Disney uses the sillohette of at the start of his movies. Anyway, after the trip it was back to Munich for a day or so and then on the plane home.
Oberammergau, Bavaria, Germany danandroz... It was a great time, with a huge beer being passed around and plenty of food.I had schnitzel and it was awesome. Monday morning and Matt was better, so we went out for lunch and hung out with good friend Vance, who is also in town on holiday from the US. We visited a couple of beer gardens and went out for Italian, before calling it an early night. Yesterday was quiet too, going out for lunch with Vance and Rhue ...
Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany mattandneetie... to dinner that night I came upon a stoplight and the "Don't Walk" sign was illuminated. Now, Garmisch is the kind of place where people will always wait to cross the street because that's what the sign says to do. No matter that no cars have driven by in the past fifteen minutes, nor that one can plainly see, for three or four miles in either direction, that there are no cars on the horizon. The chances of being run down by a speeding motorist were exactly zero. But the sign ...
Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany danschedlerAnother work conference for my parents brought us to Oberammergau for a week. We stayed in the cutest little wooden cottage - like the whole thing ceiling to floor and including flowering window boxes was made out of wood! Totally picturesque like you've read about in Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Aromatic town bakery. Absolutely enchanting.
