... more mechanized than an American one. It's getting late as I reach Bolzano. The train passes through a large industrial area, and then the train drops me off in front of a couple austere Mussolini era buildings and statues. Definitely doesn't feel like the Alps here. I check in to a hostel, chat a bit with my roommate, an American from Idaho who somehow landed a gig caretaking for a farm in Tuscany! Right now he's ...

... the heart of the city, with its lively pedestrian street full of tourists... gellaterias... a large cathedral... a little castle on a hilltop and a lively stream running right through the city... another pedestrain street with classy carved bushes cut to look like a piano, a guy on a bicycle. Yep... I've left the rustic charm of the Alps behind and back to the more sophisticated grandeur of urban Italy. But I will go ...
