We spent pretty much the entire afternoon on the coach. A funny incident, as we are all getting into deep naps during the bus trip, suddenly I was woke up by intensive heat, like burning fire, really hot-like-hell, it's winter and I can't get rid of any more clothes from my body ...

... It was clearly our Olympic moment, a fantastic effort by "our Olympic team". One of those days that defines my job and why I love it. Like the host nation, its people and the world athletes competing here in China, I too can say, "I am proud to be a part of the Olympics". Thank you to the 2008 Olympic Sailing production team, you all deserve a gold medal for today's efforts! cblinc Qingdao, China Sunday August 17, 2008.

The entry fee was again quite hefty (Y150) for a regular ticket. The sights consisted of three areas: the ...

The North Dumpling restaurant tried to rip me off when it changed the price on their menu for beef dumplings, after I had ordered and eaten them. I found out when the change came back a few quai short. I argued vehmently against the way they did their addition. At least like many other Chinese cities of some size, it still has that high-class dining refuge called McDonald's. After ...

Sterling adjusted his tie in the reflection of the car window, smoothed his eyebrows. Practiced his smile. The factory was lit up, bright, clean, purring like a cat who has just finished his bath. There was a stage erected on one side of the factory, a thin red carpet coating the floor and rounding the curves out. A table. A banner in Chinese ...
Qingdao, China natandandy... of for developing countries like China. Another example of this re-signification of meaning is the Playboy name brand. In America, Playboy is synonymous with naked women and Hugh Hefner, a mansion, a grotto, and more naked women. Here "Playboy" is not an adult entertainment business but a fine clothing empire. It uses its recognizable image (the bunny silhouette) but re-manufactures the meanings associated. Not naked women, nice shoes. Not belt's ...
