      ... found out that the local pub we had targeted, well known for its variety of beer, was closed on Mondays. Since we had a good parking space, we found a small organic cafe, Cafe Liberia, in the area and ate there. We later looked it up and discovered it was the #2 rated restaurant in Liberia. Dumb luck counts. Afterwards we found a great gelato shop bordering the central park for dessert, which more than made up for the lack of beer.

      After a bumpy 2 hour drive along a dirt road and an hour boat ride on the lake we made it to La Fortuna. La Fortuna is a tiny town with views of the Arenal volcano, when it's not a cloudy day. The volcano was active from 1968 to 2010, seems like we were three years too late to witness the lava eruptions.

      While in Fortuna we spent one day walking up the famous waterfall which is situated at the base of the volcano. It was only a 5 km's walk but ...
