Gallo Pinto, Pollo Frito!!!

... gum and pretty much anything else they could get their hands on. However, that wasn´t nearly as annoying as the woman standing directly in front of us selling rice, beans and fried chicken. Every couple of seconds she would YELL out ¨Gallo pinto, pollo frito!!!¨over and over again, to the point where it was stuck in my head for the rest of the day! Hence the title of this entry...anyways, we got back on the bus and were off to Managua (the capital of Nicaragua ...

... told us we could, but they were sorry that we had to sleep in such conditions on the floor, just with one sleepbag. So they let us stay in a room for 5 dollars each!!! Ja!! It was so great!! The room was sooo beautiful, and so cheap ; ) !!! They told us the park was closed the day after. I couldn´t believe it!!! In Granada we take the Tica (common words for Costa Ricans) bus to San José. The bus is comfortable and even has air conditioning. We did not except that and therefore our guide has organised us to stop in Liberia where we will stay 1 night before going to Bahia Drake in the South of Costa Rica.<br>At the border it is chaos. Lots ofbusess, trafficc, people trying to sell something... And again ...

Border and to Liberia

... the end of the tramitadore he then wanted paying, also the other one we did not know about also needed paying. At this point they also told us that we had to pay $5 to go to the policeman who did not check the vehicle. Mike said no way he can check if he wants, there reply if you do not pay you do not get the paperwork, a bit of a Catch 22, so we paid and they left. We then had to go into the final hall where you have to hand in all the paperwork and receive the ...

Letting Go

... and they think they will arrive at their destination in June. Of course, our question was "how can you do that? Just give up everything and travel?" Indeed, Howard had sold all of his businesses and his property and spent much of his time sailing around. Eric's response? "You just have to let go." Then and there, Catharine and I decided that the theme of our trip, and this stage of our lives, was ...

Backpackers Raid The Gourmet Tabacon Hot Springs

The hot water comes directly from Arenal Volcano and flows around a natural setting filled with jungle type foliage. There is also a spa there. We enjoyed this place, it was pure luxury. There was a swim up bar that i couldn´t resist swimming up to, to order a 12 ...

Puerto Viejo-Costa Rica

Today was a biking day trip for me. I biked from Puerto Viejo to Punta Mona for all day. Checked out the nice beaches, the surfing areas, and at the end I went to the Playa Negro where you get to watch the priceless sunset on the black sand beach. The area is really awsome. I totally recommend this place. The bikes are only $5 for the all day.

Costa Rica - and freedom at last!!

Arriving in Liberia, it was surprisingly full - the first place we've had problems finding accomodation - must be all those bus loads that left from Managua before us earlier in the day! Fortunately we eventually found Cabinas Anita were great. Basic, but clean, comfortable enough, and very cheap:) And everyone has been telling me how Costa Rica is so much mroe expensive than anywhere else in central america - but i defy anywhere else to have a good dinner for the equivalent of 1pound!
