Our trip to Mexico

We entered in Mantamorus, Mexico on my birthday December 20th 2007!! We then took a long journey down to Molango, Mexico to where my husbands family lives. We also stayed some in Pachuca where other relatives live as well! We then traveled to Mexico City before going home. It was an awsome experience and cant wait to go back!!

Teotihuacan, the ancient city of the Aztecs that has been immortalized many times from 16th century Spanish paintings to Mel Gibson's frightening Apocalypto, is truly a magnificent sight to behold. It is easily the largest surviving pre-Columbian ruin in Mesoamerica, and with two massive pyramids and a host of related buildings and wide avenues, it is easily the match for many modern cities ...

Adios Metepec

... biggest problem travelling solo. I will be leaving many things in Metepec and plan to travel relatively light. Nicaragua, specifically Leon, where I plan to reside for the next to months, is around 40 hours of bus riding time away. I will attempt this long trip over around 4-5 days depending on the places I see on the way. Tomorrow morning I am heading to Mexico City, and then onto ...

... my classes as I was swarmed by a large group of primary students who refused to stop hugging me. The secondary students are not so fun. They don't like to hug me. I can barely get them into the classroom, and when I do they are rarely motivated to work. I'm trying not to let this get to me, and sometimes just conduct the class regardless of who (if anyone) is listening. Other time we just play games. I always pray that these classes will go quickly. The school is ...

Sad Day

The doctors misspoke. They said my grandfather had a few months to live. They meant a few days. So is life. Everyone was making a mad dash to get to El Paso to say their goodbyes. Everyone prayed vigorously that they would arrive in time. Alas, it is Sunday, the seventh day, the Sabbath. God was resting. My grandfather, Fred Seward, passed in his ...

Last Market Day

This is my last Saturday in San Miguel. So I wandered the market, which is huge. I've visited a number of Latin American countries now and here's what I've learned: Jesus is extremely popular. People love him. And Jesus paraphernalia (crosses, crucifixes, 3-D portraits, life-size recreations) are huge sellers. According to my calculations (which took 12 seconds and involved me picking large numbers), these items generate $14 trillion a year in sales. I don't know exactly how ...

A New Day

I woke up to a loud banging on my front door. It sounded more urgent than I'm used to, being that the only person who knocks on my door is the woman who washes my clothes. She had never been this excited to do my whites. I jumped out of bed and answered the door. I was greeted by an ancient man leading a donkey. He mumbled something I couldn't understand. I assumed he was requesting that I chew his food for him, as he had lost all but a few scattered teeth. I said no ...
