Baquedano 534 Torres del Paine, Patagonia, Chile, 61000, +56(61)613531
... at about 5:30 pm, we didn't have much daylight left (though then sun doesn't completely set down here until about 10 pm, it isn't fun to hike in the waning evening light), so we only hiked the 5.5 km from our dropoff point to our first campsite. I say only, because that's how we/I viewed it going in, but I was in for a rude awakening: 1) 8 days worth of food plus a few hours' worth of water (I drink tons) weighs a lot.. at the start of our trek, my bag was easily over 60 ...
Torres del Paine, Patagonia, Chile dan_the_man... three days! The first day we drove into the park and on the way saw some local wildlife - guanacos (looks like a llama), rheas (looks like an emu), condors, eagles and ibis. Then we took a boat ride across a lake to our campsite for the night. We dumped our stuff and took off on our first hike, a cool 6 hour hike up to the French campsite between the Towers. The weather was amazing, the sun was out and we got quite warm walking, and there were no clouds so the view was spectacular. We took ...

Torres del Paine, Patagonia, Chile pepsouilleBased in Puerto Natales, another beautiful town next to another massive lake, surrounded by more snow capped mountains. Here, we got ourselves sorted out for a weeks hardcore survival, including cooking equipment, and a lot of pasta!!

The hostel people booked us onto a 7am bus to the park for the next day, and we were off into the wilderness! The road itself was a stunning drive alongside lakes and more mountains, for 2 hours or so, til we arrived at the park ...

Torres del Paine, Patagonia, Chile heinz82... cliff faces with the only relief from the trees as we delved into the forst....when I got back everything was soaking wet, every layer of me - even my underwear. We had to dry off in a hotel that was in the middle of the park (a 600 pounds a night hotel...pretty special) and the porters weren`t too pleased! I had to squeeze out my socks and gloves in the sink because they were so wet. We had everything on the radiators and they kept on ...
Torres del Paine, Patagonia, Chile cornflake... Natales in Chile. The Torres del Paine National Park is one of the best National Parks I´ve ever trekked. I did the W circuit back in 2001, seeing floating glaciers, the horns (cuernos) of Paine and a mountainside forming glacier as well as the Torres themselves. The Torres are amazing simply because they are two of the most vertically shaped mountains you can see. They and their surrounding mountains are quite vertical, and they are flanked by ...
Torres del Paine, Patagonia, Chile atullguptaI got the 0500 bus from El Calafate, Argentina to Torres del Paine (National Park) in Chile. My first border crossing was quite uneventful, although they did take all of my newly purchased fruit off me, asking if I wanted to eat it then and there (4 apples, 2 oranges, 4 plums, 1 kiwi fruit) - I think not! I arrived in Torres del Paine to 90 km per hour winds. Now I know Patagonia is meant to be windy, but come on! I was seriously ...
