Thanksgiving...Spanish style

... the uneducated Scott or I did.
Regardless we all enjoyed the palace very much, despite the rain and cold. Before we left the palace Mom made sure to snap a picture of the 4 of us wearing her famous "turkey hats" so we could at least feel some semblance of Thanksgiving here in Spain. We spent the later afternoon walking around the King's gardens outside the Alhambra and then headed back to the hotel so that Mom and Torrey could take another nap before dinner ...

To the Alhambra...

... is typically Moorish; ornate archways, mosaicry, marble by the bucket load and water features everywhere. An absolutely enchanting and dramatic structure overlooking Granada. We spent the best part of the day there, and very much appreciated Amanda and Gavin´s jovial company (thanks guys). Following the Alhambra, we headed down into the old town and commenced a night of beers, accompanied by free tapas. Each round consisted of a beer with a ...

... when it's raining. Another observation that I made was that the roads were so narrow to have cars and pedestrians. Pretty bad idea. Later on while we were walking back towards the hotel we saw this Spaniard on the day of his bachelors party...he was wearing a white fairy looking dress. Pretty funny. After our group walk myself and a girl in the group walked around and up a hill in a residential neighborhood. The graffiti was so cool and the views ...

Granada: Home of Hippies and Gypsies

... of the mountain where for centuries gypsies and now hippies reside, setting up their makeshift homes. We were not able to climb high enough to see them but we did get an amazing view of all the speckles of lights down in the city and up twinkling in the sky.
The next morning at 8 am I trekked up the steep streets to the Alhambra. This palace is beyond descriptions but I will give it a try. Inside every room has the most intricate designs on every wall ...

el rey learns to ski

... got into a cab at some stage and told the driver to go to our hotel. The driver said:'' close the door!", then drove about 50m down the street and said:'we are here, that will be 5 Euros'. haha, hilarious!! Another day skiing the hangover away and the weekend was already over. I dropped El rey at the airport and continued onto Malaga, where i decided to sleep in the car at the airport, in fear I would miss my flight. The things you do just before turning 30!!

Estepona to Granada

... that was it. We were amazed, yet again, at the amount of construction along the coast - and wondered, one more time, if, in this period of intense worldwide recession, they could possibly find enough people with disposable cash to purchase all the new units, most of which were, clearly, meant as resort locations. At Almunecar, we pulled off the road to go visit the beach and see the castle on the hill. It was windy, but still sunny. We walked ...

... back down in the town below - it looks like Spain, except all the signs are in English (and Spanish) and there's lots of white/pink skinned (many sunburnt) people sitting at pubs with British names outside in the sunshine on the pavement drinking British beer and eating British pub food. Today is another 3 countries in one day affair (Morocco, Spain, Britain) and I drive back into Spain and head for Cadiz. My main knowledge of Cadiz beforehand is that it was a major ...

Rest Day in Granada

... the way. On the way back we passed through the Arab quarter and had a kebab and a falafel. The streets around this area are all cobblestone with mild steps, and yet cars still drive all over them. That about wraps up this Saturday.
