    ... started churning up pictures of what it used to look like. I could see the hundreds of Mayans waking up at sunrise to worship and quickly runoff to hunt or harvest. An elderly man walks through a crowd of children and takes a seat on a rock to share stories of the past. A beautiful long haired woman stares up into the sky and wonders about the last twinkling stars remaining in the dawn sky. Yes, I have a very active mind.

    ... I also tried the coffee but it was too bitter for me. Onto the important part, buying things. Hazel and I both tried on a colourful dress, but decided we looked like we were dressed in a potato sack. But we did manage to buy things, two bags for me, I have decided that Guatemala is the place of bags and scarves! Our return journey back to Antigua was uneventful and we arrived in good spirits ready to do more.....shopping! Mayan wedding ...

    ... br> Having not had enough gourmet delights during our time in Antigua, we also toasted marshmallows on volcanic rock. We completed a sweaty 45 minute ascent up Volcan Pacaya, an active volcano that last erupted in 2012. It was still steaming and quite a fantastic site with lots of black, pumice like, stones. Our bus broke down on the way back, which gave us an opportunity to watch local volcano, Fuego, erupt lava into the night sky. ...

    In the last five days of 2014, Sam and I visited 4 countries and endured 5 boarder crossing, bribes and all, to make it to Antigua in Guatemala in time for New Years. And I'm so glad we did, I couldn't think of a better place to spend it. Antigua, as the name suggests, is old.
