Things that go BUMP in the Night...

... swift action resulted in them being relocated underneath the van, despite the protestations of Lymºs board, which proceeded to lash out and cause him bodily harm about the head. (A: ha ha ha !!) However, all is forgiven and we all lived to surf another day.

Expensive Grass

A very pretty (cobbled alleyways, olde worlde stylee, cows in a field with not only udders, but also tuneful bells which, when youºve got a dozen, made quite a din a la Mike Oldfield) little town, unlike the campsite which was essentially a sodden piece of grass, for which we were charged Euro 22, for the pleasure of a night's shut-eye.

Leaving San Sebastian behind we drove to Santander to spend the night. With nothing more then the car, no place to stay and no plan. As luck turns out we found a cheap Pension to stay at, and ate in their quaint little restaurant, treated to warm hospitality, good food, and free Grappa and Lemonchelo

... haven't been allowed in the actual cave for a number of years, but instead visit the neo-cave, which is supposedly an exact recreation, but who really knows if this is true or not? I had the option of touring the cave on my own, or joining a Spanish tour. The cave was a bit disappointing, but at least the tour guides weren't :)

Our tour guide, Ana, looked a lot like a Spanish Heather Graham. And the only thing better than a Spanish ...

... The mediocre melon gelato I got from Heladeria Italiana didn't help either, as it was a little too creamy, and not as light and refreshing as I had hoped.

Santander ... I originally thought it would be a little tacky, given that it's quite a famous tourist destination, at least for the Spanish and Europeans. Like La Coruna, Leon, and Burgos, I did have a bit of a reason for coming here (in addition to beautiful Spanish senoritas ...

... I prefer Leon's because of its stained glass windows. Gothic cathedrals are normally dark on the inside, but the Burgos cathedral seemed almost too bright. There were, however, some very interesting items to be found in the cathedral. And as is generally true, the cloisters were the best part of the cathedral, at least for me. Though today, this was mostly due to the high number of senoritas walking about the cloisters.

We venture to the next village and explore a medieval church and castle which was part of the Atlantic Pilgrims Route to Santiago de la Compostela. We pass a number along the road still walking. They all have wooden sticks, backpacks and look exhausted. I think this route would be a lot more interesting then the one that goes inland which seems to be more open and ...

Things got better on arrival into Santander as the rain i feared would be waiting for me on arrival had thankfully been replaced by mostly clear and sunny skies. With a Brittney Ferries fry up in my belly and a spring in my step i disembarked and pedeled my way through the maze that is Santander. After about an hour i broke free from the shakles of the city onto the open road ...

Spain Day 15 - Calzada Romana

... call it "rabas"(sp?)). I watch her fry it up fresh. Nothing I can see thats very difficult. Must just be the perfect blend of spices combined with the amazingly fresh calamari. Thats my best guess anyway. The whole family digs in and we polish the plate in just a couple of minutes. No sauce or nothing. Just fried calamari. YUM. Then, in to town to try a new restaurant. Its our biggest disappointment of the trip so far in terms of culinary experiences. Not much to say other than ...
