... He also said there was nothing to see in Caracas and so we moved on the next day. We spent a couple of days in Cumana. This was a pleasant city that felt tiny though it really wasnt. We had a good time there and didn't ever feel in danger but we did feel that Venezuelans were much less friendly than people have been in every other South American country. Mostly it was just that people didn't smile at us on the street, but some people didn't even want ...
Cumana, Northeast Venezuela, Venezuela phil.aldridge... has been the only main drawback with this country, apart from the litter, the people are extremely friendly, the sights and scenery are very good, but there is just nowhere for a vehicle of our size to park in safety. A definite shame but we will not compromise out safety just to see the country. Anyway we are now parked up alongside the main road and a 24 hour police checkpoint for the night (N10.19.48.04W64.19.22.65).
Playa Concord, Venezuela mikeandmary... losing weight as buying is hard to do, and more importantly buying what you want is harder. So We are living on less than 2000 calories a day... good stuff !!!! 6 Pack days here I come. Ems has taken a slighlty different route and had a stomach bug for the last 3 days!! So a trip through the market to get some food with dogs ******** liquid stuff and the fish market smells mixed with urine and other vile vapours put one appitite at bay totally. We ...
Santa Fe, Venezuela kingsandems... on barbecues on the beach, snorkling inside the coral barriers and swimming in the clear blue water of the Caribean sea. In summary, it was heaven ! _______________________________________ ____________________________ Despues de una semana en la jungla, fue genial llegar a las playas del Caribe. Estuvimos 4 dias en Santa Fe, un pequeño pueblo de pescadores en el que ...
Cumana, Northeast Venezuela, Venezuela mariaclement... Plus a couple big iguanas. very cool. For a national park the beach was a little littered, but most of it was from washed up garbage from other beaches. On our way back we went to another beach Playa Colorado, which had a bit more peope but was still very nice, there we had a bite to eat and headed back to Santa Fe to call it a day, the next day we headed to Ciudad Bolivar to jump off to Angel Falls for 4 days.
Santa Fe, Venezuela mattyc123... Parque Nacion Mochima. We were hoping for pristine Beach's, but instead it was full of trash and debris. Very disappointing, but we made the best of it and walked around the island until we found a more private beach and stayed there for the day. When we arrived back to the beach where we were picking up our boat back, it was full of local families and their huge boats partying!! So much for a national ...
Santa Fe, Venezuela vmcelani... at the caves. The previous night I guide had convinced us that they were to be missed at our peril. Much to our amused surprise we discovered that we had actually been taken to our guide's favourite crack smoking den! Granted there were a few rock pools and a small waterfalls to loon about in for the afternoon and whilst our animated guide kept nipping off for a quick toot we kept ourselves highly amused with good company and beach rum. Several hours later we were all getting ...
Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela elliotandcarla... but decided to take the advice. In the end we settled out of view of the road but within the circle of lights around the (closed) shops and restaurant. Naturally, we had no trouble. Except from a friendly but flea ridden puppy Nancy made friends with and who slept under the vestibule of our tent. It was a very pleasant last night and we expected it to be in sharp contrast to our 'travel day' to the airport. We hadn't wanted to spend any time in Caracas because ...
Cumana, Venezuela mlc... La Cruz, I caught a pay-per-seat taxi along the green and hillly North Eastern coast of the country to Mochima, a small fishing village. The taxi dropped me off along the highway, where I managed to hitch a ride with a local school bus down to the main village..made up of two short streets running parallel to the sea. The streets were dead and it was as if I had entered a ghost town. It is really pretty though...with lots of empty but colourful posadas...and ...
Mochima, Cumana, Caripe, Maturin, Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela sheenasumaria... we felt it would be rude not to explore. The next day we got up early to get to the dock to take a passenger boat across to Araya. The boat had 4 speedboat engines and made mincemeat out of the journey taking only 20 mins. At the other side we got into a jeep with a family of 12 all intent on getting to the playa, we had to cross the penninsula to get to the best beaches and we passed the ...
