... time in Poland. That was very disappointing to us. I have seen a Lhasa Apso in Lhasa. I have seen a few Scotties in Scotland. We’ll keep looking.

Mauling the language

Polish is a difficult language to pronounce as there are many different accents marks and while it isn’t like a language where we can’t even recognize the letters. Still, we tend to ...
Warsaw, Central Poland, Poland carpefeline... where we could almost start a separate blog for the different varieties and different cities in which we have a tried them, among which Warsaw now finds itself!

We were only a couple nights in Warsaw, but that was plenty of time to visit the old town, palace, and churchs, try out a blue ice cream, walk through some nice gardens, and visit the Marie Curie museum. The big Soviet clock tower was pretty cool too, particularly as a big storm took over the city!
Warsaw, Central Poland, Poland fisebWe're off! After months of planning and a final frantic couple of weeks we are on the road. At times I thought that we would never get the trip underway but here we are, at the moment on an overnight stop in Frankfurt Oder on the German/Polish border and on our way to Mongolia. Having all assembled at the Dover ferry terminal on Friday May 8th, we crossed to France and travelled across Belgium and Holland, into Germany, round Berlin and on to Poland. Let me ...
Warsaw, Central Poland, Poland ricka... of the castle. I passed by several churches and palaces. Since it was Sunday I couldn't go inside the churches or else I'd be interrupting services and I didn't want to do that. But the building exteriors were impressive enough. The only problem was the blistering cold. When I first stepped out of the hostel it didn't seem too bad to me but once you start walking and the wind hits you it's impossible to stay warm. Even with a cami, long sleeved ...
Warsaw, Central Poland, Poland travelingdiva... arrived (ahead of me, back taking photos) & signalled that if we were quick we were to be allowed in. Another sad place, not only for Jews. Amongst photos & individual life stories there were lots of translated poems or stories from people who had been through there. Outside there was the prison yard, against which concrete wall many were executed. As I say, we saw plenty of disturbing images today, and I was not the only one with tears flowing during the ghetto film ...

Warsaw, Central Poland, Poland jaakkoturkkaI do feel fantastic when I get up. Not!! I do try to make it to the uprising museum (again). This time I actually get to go thru the whole museum. This place is awesome. It's also helpfull that some of he displays are also in English. I read faster in English you know. Rafal sends me a text to make sure I'm alive. I assure him that even thou I feel rought I am alive. After the museum (which is close to the lesbian bar), I hed over to Dorota's for ...
Warsaw, Poland kasia-wawI get up and dad hands me the phone. Woytek has called!! Yay!! I talk with him for quite some time. He seems to be in good spirits or was it the spirits talking. I'm so clever.. I get off the phone with my bro, take a shower and make myself some breakfast. I fry up the kishanka I bought yesterday, 2 scrambled eggs, pate with bread and some tea. Hmm the kishanka is not what I expected. However I find it VERY tasty. It's a spicey sausage/kasha combination. Hmmm.. I save ...
Warsaw, Poland kasia-waw... my mind as if it were yesterday. The mural was purely in black and white: at the bottom foreground, were some Nazis all in a row; you could see them in their uniforms and with their helmets. Surrounding the soldiers in the mural were tall buildings, obviously depicting Warsaw...in the middle you could see people running, and at the very top of the picture in the sky were planes, dropping down bombs. If you think that the plaques struck me, this mural caught my ...
Warsaw, Poland swisherd... tended to show a weakness of character, but when under unbelievable hardship, they managed to find hope where there was none. The other observation that I came away with was man's unspeakable inhumanity to man - and I don't mean the Germans. I mean the Allied Forces who even after the war used Poland as a means to an end - their ends! And as well, they just held back while Russia moved in, used the Polish Army to subdue the ...
