    138km, 2500 m of ascent. 9 hrs 35 mins actual on-the-bike cycle time. Average speed 14.3km/hr.

The plan was to see if anymore action took place overnight from the rebels but all quiet. The road was opened again for business late yesterday afternoon so the decision is to carry on to the place we should have stayed at last night - nearly at the top of the big mountain range (part of The Andes) that we have to get over to reach Medellin for our next ...

We woke up to a beautiful view of the mountains above, with low clouds sitting in the valley below. It was also much cooler than the mornings have been at sea level, which was a refreshing change. When we were just about to leave the hotel lady offered us some coffees; of course we couldn't resist, especially when she asked us if we wanted milk with it, which is a real treat! When it arrived it was actually hot milk, with a faint brown colour, which was ...

Today was a fairly remarkable day for us, thankfully in a good way. We set off at 7.30, and luckily didn't have an altercation with the hotel lady about us staying for so many hours. We had been on the road for about an hour when I committed a beer-able offense, which we had managed to avoid during our entire 8000km Aus/India/Sri Lanka trip…..i got a puncture! Somehow I had a thick spike of metal that was about 3cms long in my tyre. It didn’t slow ...
