... covered with moorings that were
hard to avoid and most of the coral completely dead, which is what idiot’s
standing on it will do and nothing notable fish-wise either, but was at least
good exercise. Left my stuff with a little old lady saying I’d be an hour and
when I got back she had gone but luckily my stuff was still there.

... tips and slagged off the Brazilians
- this meant the tide was already coming in by the time I got to the barrier
reef, but was clear it was nothing special from just wading and that low tide
would be too low to access much anyway, so just a swim in the river and enjoyed
the sunset.

... the hobbit hill cane fields,
so small, steep and undulating the cane was being harvested by hand. The
mangroves here seem far less of an open sewer/garbage dump than those in the
city, both Recife and Salvador, where the smell was so bad you could taste it
just passing on the bus – no inclination whatsoever to swim the city beaches!

headed north along the beach to Porto Galinhas, about 3km,
pleasant though a bit one-sided at high tide or it was until I passed the
“jangadas”, the local flat bottom craft ideal in these waters, with a sail, oar
or pole for propulsion. After that every inch of the beach was packed with
people and despite being mid tide, all the boats & snorkelers were heading

... of places but luckily Lorraine, a helpful English woman pointed me in the direction of couple of cheaper places and swapped some books too.

Sergio’s place came good and got a lovely seaview balcony with hammock room for 100 and value for money despite the warm fridge, elephants upstairs and hard bed.
