THIS IS FOR AN AUDIENCE OF "PROVERBISTS," THE LONG HAIRS IN THE AUDIENCE:
The other day we had one of those happy occurrences that can only happen when you are open to new experiences.
Our landlady, Teresa, who also owns the Longihna "Portugese Memories" gift shop near us, told us about a cultural event/speech/experience (she …
We thought you might like to see where we are living in Tavira. We looked a long time on www.airbnb, Tripadvisor, and many other websites to try to get an idea of what was available. Although we did find and book our apartment in Lisbon through airbnb, that was just for a few days in order to rest up a bit and see Lisbon before moving to Tavira. < …
After a bit of trouble finding the bus station we managed to catch the bus straight to Tavira from Huelva city and an easy journey (1 1/2 hours) saw us in the middle of Tavira where we walked to our hotel.
Tavira is a very pretty little town and both Katie and I liked it straight away. There are attractive houses along the river front and …
No trip to Portugal would be complete without a trip to the Algarve. Its reputation as Portugal's Costa Del Sol does it no favours and we've been deliberating for ages to see if we can get some beach time without the socks and sandals brigade, Sky Sports, bacon and eggs and News of the World. That said, the Algarve offers mile upon mile of …
How has this hotel rated in the past?
This is a lovely hotel about a 5 or 10 minute walk from the center of Tavira where we stayed while looking for a longer-term apartment. The room was great and the cost very reasonable. Suggest going to their website for a complete description. (http://www.portanovahotel-tavira.com/) Only thing we wished was better was the morning food. (We never did eat dinner there.) Their breakfast buffet is expensive and not nearly as good food as we've since found elsewhere in Tavira. Also, though WiFi is available in the lobby, would be much better if it was in the room.

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Porta Nova Tavira
I stayed at this hotel for three nights at the end of March. It is a great hotel and I recommend it. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is exceptionally clean and I really enjoyed my stay. Hotels struggle at this time of the year. There are few tourists (mostly British and Germans) but it is a wonderful time to be in the Algarve. The best part are the cheap rates. For single occupancy in a double room, I paid $22 Canadian dollars per night and this included the buffet breakfast! Total of $71.91 including taxes for the three nights. This was through Expedia.
Stayed a week at this hotel on a B&B basis, arriving at the end of 4 days of Fiesta. A delightful hotel, good sized and very clean room. Breakfast was more than adequate with a plentiful supply or rolls/breads as well as a choice of cooked foods although they were the same each day. Rooftop terrace has great views over the town.
Have just returned from a week in Tavira, and had a fantastic time! The hotel I stayed at claims to be 4 star, and I think that is a fair rating. The room I stayed in was clean, and well presented. The restaurant was fine, with the food very good, especially the evening meals (buffet style, 17.50 euros, a reasonable price to pay). The staff were extremely friendly, which was nice to see, as some places I have been to, the staff have struggled to even raise a frown!! No such problem at the Porta Nova, where there were friendly faces all round! Also the pool area looked very nice, with many deckchairs, and a bar. Very nice in the summer!
Excellent Value and Location
Stayed here for a week in January and at just £22 B & B a night (through Expedia) were not disappointed.
The hotel is situated just a short walk from the lovely town of Tavira. It is a modern hotel(although showing some signs of ageing), clean, has good facilities and pleasant staff.
The roof top bar is great, with lovely views over the town.
Breakfast was fine - self service. The cooked english fare did not look very appetizing but the breads, rolls, cheese and hams were great.
The pools looked lovely - and had it been abit warmer would have proved most inviting.
We felt our bargain break was excellent value - not sure I would have felt the same paying top prices in the summer though.
We have just returned from a wonderful relaxing AI week at Porta Nova Hotel. The hotel is very clean and comfortable. Overall, the team of staff are hardworking, polite and friendly. The only fault we could find with the staff is that the reception was busy on arrival and we were not provided with as much information as we should have been, i.e. we were not given a remote control, we were not told that we could have a complimentary ticket for the boat across to the beach and we also had to ask about a safety deposit key.
Very surprised how lovely the area was
Tavira. Hotel Porta Nova
Had a wonderful first insight to the eastern algarve. My friend and I stayed at the PortaNova and the staff were very friendly and the breakfast enough to set you up for the day! Very impressed with the roof bar with the panoramic views across Tavira ,the spacious rooms and the clean towels every day. The hotel was invaded by house martins nesting everywhere we even had a nest on our balcony and the young hatched whilst we there I found it very refreshing that they let nature take its course and didnt disturb the nests at all. We were very impressed by the whole area and will definitely be returning for a second visit
Firstly, i feel i should start with the good stuff. The town of Tavira and position of the hotel was perfect. Tavira is still relatively "unspoilt," still has lots of character and charm.
Upon checking in we were not informed that you had to get your remote, safe key(3Euros a day plus 15 Euros deposit), towels for the gym and mini bar key at reception which I felt should have been briefed upon check in.
I travelled here in December 2004 and got a very good price. The hotel is worth its 4* rating. The staff are very helpful and pleasant. The hotel itself is only about 2 years old so very fresh and new and extremely clean. The rooms are nice i wouldn't say luxurious but I am fussy. They were exceptionally clean and with a lovely bathroom. The balcony on the 4th floor was a bit low i wouldnt take kids in one of them rooms. The breakfast was excellent lots of choice staff couldnt do enough to be helpful and very efficient. The hotel has an indoor and outdoor pool and 2 very nice bars one overlooking amazing views of the river and Tavira. I would recommend this hotel to people after a quiet break it is 5 minutes walk down a hill to the centre of Tavira and the hotel did an all inclusive package. People I met who had taken this option were praising the food saying that the quality was top restauant quality.
