    ... looks like it as the polar ice season is becoming shorter so they have less time to bulk up for the summer. I am sure this leads to higher mortality rates and affects the birthing successes.  There is a  "population survey"  taken about every 5 years and one is due so there will be a better indication of whether the population is stable or in decline. The tundra is beautiful but desolate.  Coming from the Pacific Northwest where trees are in abundance ...
