Guadeloupe, Région Guadeloupe, Guadeloupe plasmoid... no such thing as perfect), ups, downs and sweeping bends.
The countryside is back to mainly trees and bushes with the odd small plot of cultivation, plenty of towns and speed bumps and several off road diversions for road works - and it really is off road, no room for low cars and spoilers here!
As on other mornings in the roadside cafes and I suppose houses, I watched mainly but not entirely the senoras making their ...

Zanatepec, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico kunzandwanner... entailed getting there by small local bus and the guide only spoke spanish....suprising really as we were in Mexico ! so had to listen hard and use all of our vast vocabulary to understand....the village had a market with an amazing old 16th century church...you would hardly recognise it as christian and catholic, more like pagan as we saw chickens sacrificed and no furniture at all, the floor was covered in pine needles and burning ...
San cristobal de la casas, Mexico mills01480... to warn drivers. Locals will paint a Tope sign on almost anything to give you a heads up. I think the folks living nearby get tired of the screeching tires, and the loud bang and the sound of metal skittering down the highway after being dislodged from the shoddy maintained vehicles. If you were to live near a Topa and wanted to sleep you would sign it someway. They become the staging area for many different ...
Arriaga, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico jdswedOn to Puerto Arista, a relative metropolis, plenty of shops, some of them even open! Out of high season seaside towns tend to only fully open at weekends when the city dwelling Mexican hordes descend. Found a nice little place near a smelly lagoon and not far from the beach, but sadly, as often happens in Mexico, the workers started banging around at 6am - because it´s really hot later, they start work early but with no concern for their sleeping clients.
Puerto Arista, Chiapas, Mexico ccchrissieJust a stop over in this small town, where a Saturday night is spent drinking until falling asleep in the streets. It was quite funny arriving there so late, everyone just coming to us so drunk and talking to us and then after one hour seeing them sleeping outside. This time has not much apart from good hot dogs, we went to eat them at a stand where they were showing a Mexican boxing game, and i had to stasy the whole 11 rounds and cheer up with the locals...
Arriaga, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico luciecox... Margo and Vern towing their 5th wheelers. This beachside town rarely visited by gringos gave us a real taste of how the Mexicans spend their weekend on the beach. We spent Sunday afternoon under a palapa watching the kids mess around on the beach, sipping $1 cervesas (Corona) and sampling the different sweet and savoury delights that the local vendors were hawking at the tables. The Fish empanadas were delicious and cheap too. There were no ...
Puerto Arista, Mexico mcgregors5... when we got there that the 25 peso price was "per person" and not for both of us. I told him to go to hell and we got out and walked away. It really burns me up that these people that depend entirely on tourism for their survival here are always ready to treat tourists with such disrespect. I know other tourists will just say that this is part of the "tourist price" culture that exists everywhere in the world, but I see it ...
