Today was going to be relaxing, no excuses. We cycled into
Sion and caught a train up to the tourist center of Zermatt which is famous for
its amazing view of the Matterhorn.

The train trip was uneventful and we sat back like rich
people watching the scenery go by from air-conditioned comfort. One change of
train at Visp and two hours later we were in Zermatt.

There were only two more trains going back down at 7:00 and again at 8:00. There were only 5 of us left when the clouds finally moved away and the setting sun dropped behind the lowest clouds and allowed us to take some of the most spectacular photos of the entire trip so far. I hope you enjoy them as much as we did.

Gav and I grabbed breakfast in town. There were a herd of goats - I think it was a show for us tourists but what the heck they were cute and they looked the part. We found a cafe that was serving half priced coffee and sandwiches - a nice surprise as we didn't find out until the bill arrived. Then we stalked up on food for the kids and headed back to wake them ...

Syd said today was the highlight of the trip so far.We took the gondola up to Matterhorn Glacier Paradis. We ascended from 1600 meters through three stops and reached 2800 meters on the first gondola. We didn't realize we needed to take a second gondola to the glacier paradis and accidentally used our ticket. We apologized profusely to the attendant and he kindly let us in through ...

... one of the highest viewing platform in the world at 12,333 feet. The top of the Matterhorn is 14,000 feet high! After our gawking we walked through a tunneled out glacier with some funky ice carvings and a very slow ice slide. The kids loved the chance to go tubing in July! It was fun to see skiers everywhere too. You can ski year round here. Our day continued with a gondola ride half way back down to the town of Furi for a lunch stop. After refueling we hiked to a huge ...
