... later we then climbed into a small "landing-on-sand" type boat to be ferried to the beach. Off the boat, we immediately collected snorkels and flippers and went into the water. The coolish turquoise water was delicious...if one says that about plunging into water when you are so sweaty and hot. We had an hour for snorkelling. Neither of us got out of the water until the last call.

After exploring Jakarta for a day on the second last day of my trip, I wanted more, a better ending to my trip. Jakarta is a huge megalopolis, second in the world depending on where city boundaries are placed. In total, 26 million people live here - in everything from modern, luxury condos to shanty-town hovels under bridges and beside railroad tracks. It's a noisy, dirty, busy city, with poor public transit, the largest city in the world without a subway.

We battled through heavy rain, and by the time we'd been trekking for 8 hours my legs were shaking like a ******** dog but luckily we arrived in the tiny village of Bontoc where we stayed in a basic guesthouse for the night.
