    Once again it was a day for the Austrians. The very parochial American crowd desperately wanted local girl Michaela Shriffrin to win and although leading after the first run, her 2nd run was rather scratchy and she finished 5th.     ... We sat at the back of the stand with our Aussie flag proudly displayed. A large group of Swedish supporters set up next to us so we ended up supporting Sweden as well.
    There was a buzz of excitement in the air as we waited for the first skier. Lots of noise and action. Music, announcer revving up the crowd, giveaways, a big screen to watch (a JumboTron) they call it here.

    ... by any means but the shopping! Obviously Aspen is an expensive town where the rich and famous come to play. Louis Vuitton , Burberry, Ermanagildo Zegna, Gucci, Prada, Kemo Sabe to name a few. We window shopped our way around and that was enough. Kemo Sabe was by far the most interesting. A true throwback to the real west. The only time we have ever been offered a free beer in a shop and we didn't have to buy anything. ...

    The drive through the mountains and Roaring Fork Valley toward Aspen was stunning. Surrounded by these towering snow covered peaks was exciting and a sense what we could expect. Part of the drive was in the dark and so we were able to see some of the amazing Christmas light displays in the small towns we travelled through.
