... as it was on the day it was buried. We walked down the streets of original Roman cobblestones. The buildings were all intact. Paintings were on the walls and mosaics were on the floors. The city was really the way the Romans left it 2000 years ago.<br> Its not a small place either. The place sprawls on and on.<br> We learned a few things about the Romans.<br> First of all, they basically lived on fast food. Many of them did not even have ...

Ciao, me chiamo Jessica.

... gulf of mexico.  The water is a beautiful deep blue, and the sand sparkles like Edward Cullen.  <br> I am happy to say that I haven't had any threatening or bad situations with the locals here.  Most of them are very friendly and appreciate the Ciao and Ciao I know.  Hopefully at the end of this trip I will be able to have an actual conversation beyond "Come te chiamo?" and "Come stai."<br><br>Arrivederci!<br> <br>

Simply Stunning

... version which Hannah enjoyed) which came with a map that had several "routes" planned out that allowed for different time frames each. We followed a two hour tour fairly closely and saw everything we wanted to see. By a couple of hours, we were ready to get out of the sun.<br><br>We heard someone say that this is the most visited site on earth. Not sure if that is true but I would not be surprized is it was.<br><br>Eli

Walking with the Ancients in Pompeii

... too without luggage). We manage to get a seat, and it is about a 30 minute ride to Pompeii. Suddenly we stop in a tunnel (not my favorite place to stop), an inspector comes rushing into our car, moves some teenagers out of the doorway and he is trying to get the door of the compartment unlocked. We have no idea what is happening, or why we have stopped in the tunnel. We hear noise, see people running outside beside the track and ...

Naples and Pompei

... lot to uncover there. A little further off the beaten path we went to a place call the Mystery Villa which houses the Mystery Friezes. They are all in one room of a big villa. They are of various scenes that scientists/artists have never been able to decipher the meaning of. They are possibly related to rituals of a cult of the time. They are striking in their strangeness. Plus they are all set against a bright red background ...

American Life

... also allowed me to experience the ´big´ side of America which wowed me and shocked me all at the same time. Disney World for example is mad, like a city in its own right and it´s bewildering just how many things are on offer (6 theme parks, an adult nightime resort and about 10 hotel resots), how many people work there (60,000 crew members) and how much the daily operating costs must be. So days 1 & 2, I went to Disney's Hollywood Studios and EPCOT Centre, both awesome ...

Sony and Rockerfeller

... further and it must be said that the sea of spires and towers and smoke-billows from cooling vents, the roof tops and renovation cranes, though severe, presented an image of great opulence, and a city alive. The only drawback of the Rockerfeller Observation Deck, to me, was the fact that it was impossible to get an unobstructed view of the Chrysler building, which was partially hidden behind the unsightly concrete mass of the MetLife ...

More Subway Joy Rides... Spamalot!

... meteorite, has a story to tell. If I could speak rock language I think we'd still be at the Planetarium now. After the amazing star show, "Cosmic Collisions", we set out back towards the hotel on 31st street. It was time to rest for a bit and then get ready for one of the best New York City experiences there is: Broadway. We were going to see "Spamalot"; the award winning, witty little musical adapted from ...

Back to NYC

... and case for $290 from a place near the station. I decided I would go check into my hostel early (the Continental Hostel) so I could charge my camera up and get snapping. Did very well since I had booked an $18 a night dorm room and got upgraded to a twin room and had no one else put in the room for the duration of my stay, how exciting! Had a rest and hid from the wind until my camera charged and I set off on my jaunt to the Empire State Building! I deliberately timed my visit
