... bikes off the van only to discover that I had a puncture in my rear tyre. As I got the inner tube out and realised that this was the 5th patch on this particular tyre I briefly wondered if there was any correlation between excess patisserie consumption and tyre damage but I quickly dismissed the possibility. ... they must have served up some pretty fine crepes. Galettes all round to start with and then of course polishing off the kids meals with sweet crepes to follow. It was good. One downer was that when Ruby went to the toilet a sheepdog that was with another group in the restaurant got startled as she ran past and bit her on the foot. When we got to Soissons, on the ring road we passed La Sucrerie - an enormous sugar factory, with belching chimneys and huge piles of sugarbeet, overlaid with a sickly sweet cooking smell - it was just like Bury St Edmund's!

Woken up by loud hooting, turned out to be the travelling bread van on a Sunday morning!

Not a lot in Vouecourt, a fountain house and a very old church.


Our Next stop was Langres, it is a fortified hill town. Walk part of the walls.


We went through the longest tunnel on our journey, 4.8km through the canal summit between the Marne and the Saone rivers.

Very rural journey for three days ...
