... The descent from the hills to the harbour at Lagada on Monday is quite an experience. The Raven goes suitably slowly for Hilli! We encounter some incredible black mountain-goats who peer down at us from ridiculous perches high above the road. The water in the harbour is crystal clear and full of fish swimming just below the surface... a bit like in Ithaki... they're accustomed to having bits of bread thrown to them from the taverna. The Chios officials use the same tactics on the Turks as the ones they employ on everyone else... and so we get swept up in all the tit-for-tat inflicted on anyone idiotic enough to cross from Cesme to Chios!
