... turned south for Bellagio. Just off the coast of Veranna we stopped for picnic lunch and a Peroni. Then we navigated the busy waterways around Bellagio before heading back towards Lenno and eventually our boat yard. It was a great experience which we will repeat often in the future. ... Villa Monastero garden and then a stunning 2 hour walk upto Castello di Vezio. The view is sensational and we can climb right to the top about 6 stories high, safety is not an issue and we are free to roam everywhere. Unfortunately the main attraction to the Castle is the birds they keep. Beautiful Owls and Falcons are tethered in the olive grove that the tourists walk around taking their photos. It's heart breaking.

... Alps to the north - so very different from the flat panoramas of Ireland, England and southern Africa.

This little village of Varenna with its tiny harbor, narrow alleys (contrades) and lanes is home to just 800 people. Even with lots of tourists walking around taking pictures, it's peaceful and subdued; a great place for two graying travelers.
