From Assisi we headed east towards the Adriatic coast, and since our map suggested that Sirola/Ancona was worthwhile, we stopped there.
By the way, anyone touring Europe, I thoroughly recommend the Hema maps that I am using - far better than the stuff you buy at service stations, and available locally in Australia. Has a lot of detail and shows toll-stations, inclines, truck stops, camps ...

... stopped for lunch beside one of the 3 lakes that surround Mantova. Another beautiful, sunny day. After a shower back on the boat we headed into town for a guided tour of the town centre. Then to add insult to injury, we had to haul the luggage up to the 3rd floor! At last we met Maria, our hostess, who was very kind and understanding and a font of information. She made us a dinner reservation and we ended the day with a delicious meal of local fish watching the sun set over the ...

... enthusiasm for museums, we could probably have spent one less day in each of the three cities so far. But the leisurely pace has meant that we have had lots of time to just wander and ponder, my idea of a good vacation. Brian continues to stick his head in every church we pass even if we've been there before. However, it must be said that his sense of direction is remarkable and he usually steers us correctly. Tomorrow we are off to ...
