... we made it to Parma and once we got there, the snow outside was so beautiful! Sometimes when I go on bus rides I look outside and it's just so incredible. There is nowhere in America that looks like this. I got even happier once we got out of the bus because after the spoonfuls of vinegar and a cube or two of cheese, I was pretty hungry and was greeted with a big plate of the best cured meats ever! Annnd spinach ...

... Very pleasant in the sunshine, and loads of dogs for Joy to photograph - see her separate entry on the dogs of Parma!!

After lunch, Joy went back to the Duomo (and photos of dogs!) while Michael simply strolled around. Very relaxing. Now, the reason for a lazy day is that we have decided to add a visit to Caravaggio town while we are in Milan - we move on to there tomorrow - which will mean that the next three days are going to be ...

Petit and dainty clothed in fancy coats or little pyjama suits, big and butch, long and lanky, large and hairy, dazzling with diamante, lush with leather. Yes...they are Parma's dogs. They are everywhere, walking, carried, ambling with nose to the ground, standing their ground, are at a ...

... on artists with importance to Parma, as well as having a small archaeological section and a huge section on drawings and architectural drawings of importance to the area. Most of the paintings in this little gallery were by bodies not on Joys lists, although some of them have now been added to those lists. But, although being able to get close to the paintings here too, nothing seen here came quite as close in wow factor as that lovely little drawing ..... La Scapiliara.

... at night, so you really have to watch for them. Dogs are a different issue. About one person in three walking the streets of Parma has a dog with them, and these are highly strung pedigree breeds too. Many are the very small breeds, and in this cold weather most are covered with great little jackets. Joy photographed many of them, and plans to do a theme blog on the dogs of Parma. Hmm, have to wait and see if she is barking up the wrong tree with that ...
