Avenida Julius Nyerere 1380 Maputo, Mozambique, 1-491001

Woke up after Ang had already been up for a while. I took a shower in a shower with no showerhead: it was just a pipe sticking out of the wall and the shot water out of it. Plus, it was freezing cold and there were huge cockroaches on the walls and on the floor in that bathroom. Aside from these minor inconveniences, we got dressed and went to eat some breakfast. I had coffee and ham and cheese on toast. We then set out to walk around and we went to try to find places to get trips or car rent...

... locals do, **** on the side of the street. It was fine the first time but the second time a security guard gave me the looks. The last time I ended up going to the public toilet which was fine but I was surprise to see that you had to pay.

Just before setting off, we were approached by a Mozambique guy, Joko, who was telling us a bit about Maputo. He was obviously some sort of tramp but he was quite nice, so when he asked for something, I gave him a coin; he gave me ...
Maputo, Mozambique alexhuchet... and restaurants, but by now my laptop won’t power up at all. This is quickly becoming a priority. I also stop by the US Embassy and have them add more pages to my passport, a fact that will take on supreme irony later.

Fortunately there’s an Internet café up the street, since the hostel has none. That’s heresy, which I interpret as a difference in the S.A. scene, less Internet users because there are less ...
Maputo, Mozambique hardiek... the road. We truly enjoyed the life, pride and joi de vivre that flows through the streets here. Sure, some of the buildings are run down and the scars of 25 years of civil war cannot go unseen. But there is a certain pulse in Maputo that picks you up and pulls you along. You end up leaving the capital with eyes full of the colour and laughter of people, leaving the ruins and crumbling pavements to fade into the background.
Maputo, Mozambique manic-trip... mumiek telkens . Toneelspel

Maputo, Mozambique betuca... of us waited til 8am, Antonio having told us the "captain" would not sail if we weren't at least 15. 8 came and went and we were still only 5 and despite offering to pay two tickets myself (in the hope others might be able to jump that band wagon of Inhaca will) the captain said UN GROS NON. Jesper, Zara and I were hitting it off by this point...I briefly considered getting the small cessna to Inhaca but dumped that idea when I was told it didn't leave until 5pm and the ...
Catembe, Mozambique ashling... and so you feel that little touch more like: YES, I AM GOING TO AFRICA!!!! Anyway, I was more than happy to listen to swahili for "life vest is under your seat" and "emergency exits are being pointed out to you" etc etc. I think my favourite moment is when that torturous screen of the world, or the continent in question, comes up and glares at you as your tiny dot just snaaaaaaaaaaail pace moves down the immensity of Africa, and then those stats come up: time ...
Maputo, Mozambique ashling... cafe scene. The city's very green and the people are laid back. ATMs, shops and the crowds are really alien. Two months has felt a lot longer on certain days but well worthwhile. An important milestone has occurred. We have had our last minibus / pickup journey. Never again will have to endure the cramped B.O. fume conditions that threaten to throw you off the road down a ravine...once we reach ...
Maputo, Mozambique denzilandthedoc... connected to it. When we sat down at the restaurant, our waitress, Argentina, asked, "Fish, prawns, calamari?" We responded, "Fish, calamari." She asked, "2 kilos fish, 1 kilo calamari?" We said, "Okay." Argentina returned twenty minutes later with a platter of raw seafood. I was psyching myself up to eat this disgusting blob when Argentina asked, "Grilled, fried?" pointing at each item. We pointed at the fish ...
