... full of amazing mosaics. After a few hours in Ravenna, we had a 3 1/2 hour driving through the Alps until we arrived in Tuscany just as there was the most magnificent sunset ever. Our hotel in Assisi is up high on the hill by the Basilica. It is a warming evening and the moon is almost full. It has been a truly glorious day. Cannot wait to see what tomorrow brings. We stopped at a WWII war cemetery at Montecassino where many allied troops died trying to pass through a valley to get to Rome with Nazi soldiers firing at them from the mountaintop. Eventually, the allies who suffered great losses decided to bomb a 1,000 year old abbey called Montecassino. The abbey was rebuilt ...
