Don't let Yogyakarta bite you!

... In five minutes, we were already in Malioboro street, the main street, which is full of little shops and art galleries. The sidewalks are also full of people selling stuff and tourists, and the streets are crowded with carts pulled by horses. All this makes it really hard and annoying to walk along this street. And beware of the men inviting you to free art expositions. They are just trying to lure you in the shops to get you to buy some painting. They seem really nice ...

The Hard-nosed Tourist in Java

I definitely know that I'm back in Asia as I'm sweating profusely (I know you wanted to know that!) and I've become a hard-nosed b@€ch again. Everywhere you turn there are calls of "transport madam", "just take a look", "it's free to go inside" and, best of all, "for you, sir". Sir - do I look like a man? Don't answer that! We all wonder how all the scooters/motorbikes ...

... and a toilet (that doesn't flush) but Jytte and I rigged up our bug net so it is great. We are right on the beach and the first day we just went down there and hung out. We thought we were okay to wear bikinis but apparently it is really frowned upon so we have to be more discreet which is putting a damper on our beach experience. The water here is gorgeous and yesterday I was in absolute perfect day where I was on a high all day. The only thing that could've made it better was ...

Ramadhan! We survived

Today, Mary, Kelsea and I all fasted for Ramadhan and woke at 3 AM to eat and then didn't eat all day until 545. What a strength it takes to go all day without food, of course we drank water (I had some lemon water as well) otherwise I'm sure that I would have passed out. I actually managed the hunger but felt tired majority of the day. We really didn't do much and luckily it was pretty slow at PNTC. We watched Nawang perform several assessments and came home ...
