I hope that is good title for this. It certainly sounds better than the alternative, 'left behind'. Yesterday was my birthday and it could not have been more perfect. Well, perhaps that isn't so true. We showed up at work, but had to wait for hours in the lunch room. Seems there was a fatality or something. Not really sure if that is true or what happened, but we were told we would not be able to work that day. Since it is all about me, I was mainly happy not to have to work on my birthday. T...

We made it home safely. The -21 C temperature coming off the plane last night was a little bit of a shock to the system. We were delayed by the snow in Toronto but luckily the held our flight from Edmonton to Fort Mac for us. We look forward to seeing everyone again and sharing a few pictures with you. André & Gina
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada vincethepinceAlright, so after spending most of the night watching the Broncos get blown out, I am pretty much done packing. Follow along with our trip as Gina and I head out to the long lost continent of Madagascar. I'll try to keep the blog up to date as best as I can based on internet availability. The cab comes at 4:30am...time for bed. André
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada vincethepinceStill at work in Fort McMurray, just counting down the days. The days are already getting noticeably shorter. The days of 24 daylight are over. The mornings are getting crisper. Fall is definitely on it's way. I think Chase has lost his mind up at Diavik. We're ready for a vacation!!
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada chaseandandriaAs we pack our bags, check our lists and get things in order it is only a week before we leave. This entry is to serve only as a test that this blog and the address book is working. We hope to be able to do some entries once we leave on our journey. Downloading pictures may be a bit hopeful but we will try!! The countdown is on L
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada frostyrunner... right in our own back yard! We also plan to partake in some volunteer missions along the way, but are still in the research stages of that portion of our trip. So, that all sounds wonderful, right?? It's obvious that we're just in the planning stages but seeing as it's only been a few weeks, I'd say we're doing well! There is still a lot of research to do, and lots of planning, but we're well on our way and very excited! Watch here to track our progress both ...
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada sarahjean... chosen to fly out of Belgrade, Serbia as it can be reached within 24 hours from most places in southeastern Europe. I have a busy two weeks ahead of me before my departure and while I'm certainly getting excited about my upcoming adventure, I'm also getting scared. However, it's always surprising what you can do when you have no choice but to do it. 13 days from now, I will be in Tallinn, Estonia, and we'll just have to see what happens from there.
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada kally563... Some parents complain that once their children become teenagers, their families fall apart. I think travel kept mine together. For as long as I could remember, my mother had promised my sister and me that when we graduated from high school, we could go on a trip with her anywhere in the world. At 18, my sentiments significantly changed from ten years before, she and I set off for Vietnam. In that jungle country, I did my first shots (snake wine and ouzo), did my first bargaining ...
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada kally563Alright so it's been a while since I've given any real updates. Sierra and I left Edmonton after dropping Regan off at the bus station and Aden off where he'd be meeting his crew for his job in Bonnieville. We drove the 4.5 hours to Fort McMurray and got there in the evening of the 3rd. After briefs stops at security and the housing office, we were able to get 'checked-in' to our rooms. We share a ...

As classy as the Mad Trapper clearly is, they had no room for us. We had to stay at the cheap motel across the street. Luxury A little about the room: COLD. Maybe they weren't expecting guests but the heat was OFF. Took a couple of hours but we got it sorted out. Dave smokes, so I got to breath that in all evening. I can't judge; I used to smoke too. Doesn't mean ...
