... not go out for dinner but we did go to a pub for a beer before settling into our rooms for a quiet evening. Today, I was up early for a walk to the Plockton viewpoint overlooking the straight between the mainland and Skye. It was overcast, but still pretty. I found a lot of blackberries brambles so had a pre -breakfast treat. We left Plockton at 9:30 and drove back to Eilean Donan castle for the tour we missed ...

We found our castle of the day near the bridge to the Isle of Skye. Eilean Donan Castle has been featured in many movies and it is privately owned. Hard to credit, I know, but we were actually hot – as I am now, sitting on the front lawn of our hotel. We heard this ...

We decided to walk off lunch with a stroll around the village, checking out the small gallery exhibiting local artists' works, and admiring the gorgeous thatched cottages that line the bay. Emma introduced the Australian members of our family to the tried and tested method of seeing if you like butter by holding a buttercup under your chin (everyone did!).

We treated ourselves to an ice cream before embarking on the relaxed and enjoyable scenic drive back ...

    Excuse me officer, but......

... spots we have visited on Skye. Maybe it was just the effects of the sample dram, but, golly, it was beautiful!  It may also have been the clear blue skies and warm temperature, but it still  reminded me of several of our outings to Coupeville on  Whidbey Island in the San Juans. Our bus ride from Portree to Talisker was on a regularly ( two per day ) scheduled, but private, mini-bus line. We were two of about eight passengers along for the 45 minute ride.  It appears ...
