      Road to Snowhere

A travel blog entry by jessielewcock on Jan 14, 2015

... the night at Saucy Mary's hostel and pub. This town was absolutely tiny, and absolutely dead! Everyone was gone for the winter, which I couldn't blame them for. It had been freezing, we were either sleeping through or chasing some seriously nasty storms which had caused blackouts all around us, ripped up trees, and closed roads causing some of the trips behind us to be cancelled. We stayed at the pub for dinner and a round of pool before having another early ...

Beautiful in the sun, and a full rainbow over the mountains as we drove uphill. We are finding more and more things are closed for the winter - souvenir shops, coffee shops and camp sites for a start. Down to the coast again, and via Kyle of Lochalsh (Strait of ...

      15th CRUISE STOP: PORTREE, SCOTLAND

The town of Portree is on the Isle of Skye in northern Scotland. "Skye" was originally named by the Norse visitors as the “cloud isle”, calling it “skuy” (cloud). Inlets and fjords cut deeply into the land. The island is only about 50 miles long. Historians suspect that the strange rock formations existing here may have been the foundation for the legends of Scottish faeries. According to local ...
