Historical Traveler Reviews Plim Plaza Hotel Ocean City

Crowded party atmosphere not for families

    from

Went to the Plim Plaza the last weekend of July and were very dissapointed. Turns out it was not a good family place to stay. The pool was so crowded it could not be enjoyed. There were LOTS of males frolicking about, plus footballs being thrown back n forth in the pool and nothing being done about it. The football eventually hit a waitress in the head and she dropped a full tray of drinks and left crying. The pool water was so warm and cloudy you could hardly see your feet...eewww. People were rinsing off the boogie boards in the hotubs, too.

    Should have listened!

    from

My family does not usually listen to reviews because you never know what your experience will be like and everyone has their opinions but we SHOULD HAVE LISTENED! When we walked in the door their was a very musky smell, so strong that the windows needed to be opened. THe walls were dingy and I was afraid to take my shoes off! After a few minutes The ceiling in the bathroom started to leak! It was all over the floor! Yes the location is great but it just wasnt worth it. Within 10 minutes we packed our suit cases back up and left..... The one plus is that the staff is very helpful. I would not go back though.

    Love the plaza

    from

We have been staying at the Plim Plaza every year since 2000. We take our family down in the summer, and then we adults go for the spring and fall car shows as well as bike week. The service is always great and everyone is very polite. I tell all of our family and friends to book the Plim for vacations, it is great and located perfectly for all.

    Don't believe the brochure!!

    from

What prompted this posting was a brochure I just received from the Plim Plaza inviting us to return - I laughed so hard when I reviewed it, it really is a marketing wonder. It is so deceiving it's not funny.

I should preface this by saying, buyer beware - you get what you pay for... We planned a family reunion of about 80 people to stay at the Plim Plaza at the recommendation of a booking agent. Skeptical of the rate, on the beach, during August, we went. What a dump! The best thing is the location - that's about it. Our room had tons of mold in the room & bathroom, a foul order emaninating in the hallway outside our door, a bathroom that looked like it was going to fall into the next floor below us, and room service that apparently tried to "tidy up the place" even after they were done - no, nothing was ever taken, but boy were they surprised when we returned. That said, we got one of the better rooms from what we could tell.

Maybe my entire family (all 80 of us) got the crappy rooms, but if you are going be prepared to keep your shoes on, keep your valuable stashed away and take your allergy medicine with you!

Good for money, bad on space

    from

We went to ocean city for a long weekend with friends. Plim Plaza was in a great location right on boardwalk, Pool and pool bar very nice, live music. The room was a different story it was definately too small. We stayed in a room with one double bed. My husband is 6'5 and he could not sit on the commode without his knees on the tub, other than that it was pretty clean and decent for the money. Nice for a weekend away without cildren, not sure I would take a family. Our friends had a larger room with one full and one twin size bed it seemed to be a little bigger but still small.

Could have been better, could have been worse.........

    from

We stayed here at "The Plim" on our first ever trip to Ocean City. As stated in the other views, the location could not be any better!! Consider this, within a two minute walk you have, food, the beach, shopping, games, entertainment, public transportation, private pool & jacuzzis, the boardwalk and great front porch loaded with chairs to enjoy the view. I found all the staff to be friendly and helpful whenever I intereacted with them.

The maid service could be a problem for some. The rooms are cleaned anywhere from 9 am till????? This was a problem for us the day after we arrived. After a long walk, shopping, and lunch, we wanted to return to our room for a nap before more fun. The room had not been touched yet, time being around 3 pm now. We just asked for clean towels and trash bags then let the privacy sign out for the rest of our week long stay.

The room itself was OK. It was not a large room by any means, but how much time are you really gonna spend in the room when your stay on the boardwalk?? There were two beds a couple of stands/tables, TV, fridge, A/C, and a small closet. Everything in the room worked fine for us. The batroom was bare essentials with a tub/shower, toilet, and sink. There was a lack of storage with only a one shelf in there under the mirror. We thought that the bathroom was a little dirty, so we just wiped down with some wet wipes and problem fixed.

Now remember that the hotel is very old, built in the 1930's I think. If your looking for the best, stay elswhere. I think you get your moneys worth here at the Plim. Prices are reasonable for being in the middle of all the action and staying right on the boardwalk! What you pay for is a decent room (not terrible, not great) that is located in the perfect spot. Throw in the pool and jacuzzis along with the onsite restaurants and we had a great stay.

If you are traveling with smaller children that need to be busy all the time, the small rooms may be a problem. However, it did rain one day that we were there, and the kids were in the lobby playing games, watching TV, and viewing the exotic birds that are kept there.

I would reccomend the "Dough Rollers" for their pasta and the public concerts on the beach Wednesday nights! One other thing I want to pass along is there was always a police presence on the boardwalk so we felt safe day and night.

In closing, I found this site while planning our second annual trip to "The Plim"!! We're going back this year...

Plim Plaza Hotel...my home away from home.

    from

Whenyou cross the Rt. 50 bridge into Ocean City, MD., you begin to see the beacon flashing on the cupola of the Plim Plaza Hotel... a sure sign that you are "finally there". As soon as you enter the lobby, you almost feel as though you are at your "home away from home". Your vacation begins and only gets better. When you enter your room, you notice the very clean aroma. Our rooms are always spotless, with fresh linens and towels. Our room air conditioning and heating always work fine. The staff of the Plim Plaza always tends to the needs of their guests. They treat the guests as though they are guests in their own homes. Yes, The Plim Plaza definetly does offer superior lodging by the ocean. Visit the Plim once and you'll see for yourself. Will I stay at the Plim Plaza again? I'm counting the days until our next vacation...love The Plim Plaza!

    Plim Plaza Nightmare

    from

I have to say that the Plim Plaza is in a great location with a beautiful view from the front porch which is on the boardwalk and the pool area is also quite nice. HOWEVER, it's all down hill as soon as you walk in the door. My husband and I went there for a car show and it was the longest 3 days of our lives. When I went into the back entrance and saw the dingy, dirty walls in the hallway, all I could do was hope for the best - but needless to say, we got the worst. The bedroom was just terrible. To begin with, it didn't have a regular closet, only an 18" rod but you couldn't hang anything on it because they stuck the refrig there. So no closet space. The bathroom was only about a 4x4 with a 2" shelf on the wall to put toiletries. The floor was rotting near the tub so they put caulking all over the floor up to the tub. But they didn't stop there - they put it all around the tub and all over the faucets. They really left a mess. The AC/heater worked when it wanted to and that was a problem because I usually wanted the AC on but that meant that my husband would freeze because they don't give you any blankets for the bed. You couldn't walk on the carpeting because it was very damp. But my problems weren't as bad as my neighbors because they had water coming in their windows and they weren't even open. We were supposed to have 2 restaurants and a pool bar to eat at and fruit and coffee in the morning. Well, everything was closed up and all that was left by the coffee machine was a small bowl with some stale cheetos in it. So we were forced to go out to eat all the time. It wouldn't have been so bad except for the fact that we had torrential downpours for 2 of the days that we were there. So every time we went out, we got soaked. I asked the clerk if there was a dryer in the place that I could use and of course she said NO. So I put all of our clothes, shoes and sneakers and placed them in trash bags and packed them into our suitcases. Will I EVER go to the PLIM PLAZA again?? I think you know the answer.

    Action Packed

    from

I stayed at the plim plaza 15-17 July and the family had one of the top 5 vacations of all time. Now lets get to the details. Plim plaza is probably a 1-2 star hotel as far as accommodations and that is mostly because of age it was built in 1930's...However, as real-estate folks will tell you....location, location, location your right in the middle of the boardwalk action!!!!! when we arrived the bed sheets and bathrooms were clean window AC worked great. To give you an idea of room size...I stayed in a room with two doubles there was a 30 inch isle between the beds but about 2 inches between the beds an the walls. One con was housekeeping...each day they would come in in the AM to collect the towels we would go to the beach and come back at 3PM and the room was not made up...They were focused on changing over the rooms for new check-ins...so we asked for new towels and trash pick up and that was it...I probably couldn't have done a week like that but maybe if you slip a $10 or $20 to the maid they'd be in there every AM....J The Pool party and pool service was outstanding...first time I played chicken with my kids and didn't get yelled at by a life guard because there wasn't one. They used wristbands to keep non hotel guests out of the pool so it wasn't crowded. If you want action this is the place to be!!! If you want a swank room or apartment then you need to go up to 100th street. We had pool side rooms and yes the music does come in the room but we were tired from all the days action and had no problem going to sleep.... If your not into pool parties and being in the crowd this hotel might not be for you...I'm going back for another top 5 vacation

    Stay Somewhere Else!

    from

I just got home from a 5 night stay at the Plim Plaza Hotel. This hotel one of the cheaper oceanfront hotels that we found on the internet. I definately suggest staying at a different hotel, even if it's a little further off of the boardwalk.

First, I will mention the bad things, which far exceed the good. The worst part about this hotel was the noise at night. This hotel has it's own outdoor bar, which is right outside of the pool view rooms. An extremely loud band plays until about 1:00 AM every night, there is no possible way of falling asleep before the band quits. The noise is absolutely unbelievable. Please, DO NOT stay in a pool view room, these are probobly the worst. I am guessing the noise will be pretty bad no matter where the room is in the hotel though, because the bands are so loud. ALSO, the light coming in your window from the outdoor bar is just as bad. At midnight in our room, it felt like it was the afternoon because of the light.

Second, the rooms are about the size of a small office cubicle. We had a room with 2 double beds, and the beds took up the entire space of the room. My fiancee was the only other person in the room with me, and we felt like sardines.

Third, every single staff member is foreign. They have no idea what you are saying. The maids don't even understand the word "towel". It is extremely frusterating when you need something.

Fourth, the maid service takes forever to get to your room. At about 4:00 pm I called the front desk to ask why our room had not been cleaned, and they said, "The maid service takes all day, they can clean your room at 10:00 PM if they want to!" I couldn't believe this. You have no idea when your room will be cleaned, it runs all day and night. Sometimes it will be cleaned at 5:00, other days at 9:00 PM. We had a leak in our ceiling in 2 places which we reported twice to the front desk, and we waited 3 days for it to be fixed, and it never was.

Fifth, the walls are paper thin. There were parties going on all over our floor, and we were forced to go and buy earplugs (which didn't help one bit). We were basically up all night from the parties and the bar outside.

There were only 2 positive things I can think of about this hotel. First is the location, because it is at a very good spot on the boardwalk. It is close to the amusement park end, so you don't have to walk miles and miles to get to the action. Second, this hotel does have a very nice pool.

In conclusion, please stay elsewhere. Trust me, the tiny size of the room and the extreme noise will drive you crazy after only a night or two. You can find more for your money!

    Before the starting gun

A travel blog entry by forwardandback on Jun 23, 2014

10'x15'... the past 5 years, 2 bedrooms and 4 floors of our home is now crammed into a one cinder-block cell, the mail has been stopped (doubt I'll miss it) and tenants who will be kindly paying our mortgage for the next 12months are now moved in and we're officially "homeless".
Bethany Beach is where we'll be calling home for the next few weeks, until we jump out on the road at the end of July.

I could think of worse places to lay-low for awhile.

To many late nights, and missed sleep are starting to catch up. By now it was time to go check in at our hotel. We unloaded the car, and left again to go visit Assateague Island Lighthouse. It was one of the nicest lighthouses we've seen thanks to fresh paint in the last year. After driving around the wildlife refuge we ended ...

We got up this morning hoping to get in a couple of tours today. We managed to get on a 10:00 nature bus tour on Assateague Island. We went to a back area to the north side of the island to see some of the wild ponies. The return trip was the most entertaining when we rolled up on a group of ponies as two were going to town trying to expand the herd. Explain that to the children. As we left the sex show we encountered a ...

It's almost time, people! I've got two days and a lot of stuff to do before I leave. Packing would probably be the most important, and I've put a small dent in it. So far I have clothes, which obviously are the most important items, but I am having a difficult time choosing which shoes will make the final cut. I guess I can't bring every pair of heels I own. Darn it.

The other night I took a look at my suitcase full of clothes and ...
