Skiathos. Hanging around enjoying splendid beaches, picturesque scenery and good cuisine
And now about the things, for which most people are coming to Skiathos?
People are coming for the beaches in which Skiathos is rich. Being informed that several beaches are worth visiting, we decided not to stay in a hotel by one of them. For us that would mean staying at one and the same beach for the whole vacation and eating in one and the same restaurant.

... by car and to have more time for walking there enjoying the view, as it offers quite a lot to see.
We stopped for lunch in K. Georgi, a fishing village on the mainland, which turned out to be a very nice and picturesque place. To many of our British fellow travelers it was the first time on the mainland in Greece.
... of “driving” a boat. This was nearly the same as having a yacht of your own, but without taking care of it.
Time flies unbelievably quickly!
The conclusion is that it must be tried at least once, after that you become addicted. Sailing can’t be compared to anything.
You can find Peter in the New Port. He is a most charming person and a very responsible and experienced sailor. Look for the smallest boat. It is the best one.
... else. Actually it turned out that my friend’s view is the most frequent and it was quite difficult to find something informative about Skiathos even on the Internet until I was lucky to find the website of Geof and Lida Baldry, the Europeans, who have been resident in Skiathos for nearly 35 years by now. We agreed about an excursion to the most interesting places of the island via e-mail and on the agreed day Lida picked us ...
Skiathos, Greece diamonddenSkopelos is way more country than Skiathos. It's larger in terms of area and smaller in terms of population. Things don't seem to be nearly as popular on the tourism front; the bus system runs infrequently and with significantly fewer stops.
That said, I was a much bigger fan of the beaches and overall feel of the place.
Day one: Arrived, chilled on a not-so-glamorous beach ...
... and dessert. We decided we would be revisiting this place. Wine followed.
Day three began with scuba diving and ended with continued lounging on a third beach. Coolest thing underwater: Holding and petting (read: annoying) an octopus. SO SOFT. Dinner was a return trip to the place from the night before...then watching the sunset with ouzo.
A great intro to the islands of Greece.
... time.... we're amazingly happy and content, not sure we'd come back if we didn't have to.... For those of you who are believers like me, let it be said that in this land of my dreams there have been more "coincidences" than I can count.... it's been absolutely magical and a little breathtaking at times. Sending you much love and promises of full descriptions with pictures when we meet again, and of course, we promise to post pictures when we get back. Love, Charly & Doug
Alonissos, Sporades, Greece strattc... was inverted it meant the woman who lived there was a widow and wanted to remarry. Back into the jeeps and off to climb further into the hillside and what spectular views of the bay below. Saw some awesome 1000 yr old trees (cant remember what they were called), also saw some castle ruins and mosques etc. Back down the hillside and through a little village, some of the road signs were hard case they were like our stop signs but said DUR presume this ...
Marmaris, Crete, Greece hazdeb... in Greece on the island that we are staying on (Skiathos). Of course, we had to see it so we picked up a nine o'clock show at the local open air amphitheatre, which of course every paradise has. I was transfixed by the sheer romanticism and foreigness of the whole experience, but that could have just been that Melina slipped a roofie into my Mythos. Lazy clouds of smoke rising to a sliver moon - birds crisscrossing the skies above while Meryl Streep belted out Abba. I was ...
Skiathos, Greece anneimal... we decide to have a BBQ diner and while it was cooking we could hear some very loud Greek music coming from outside the camp. After diner we went over to check it out and found a gathering of people outside a little church on a round concrete platform dancing in very traditional costumes. It turns out this is a very traditional part of Greece. I got some vidoe footage so hopefully you can get the idea.
