Historical Traveler Reviews Plaza Inn Albuquerque
Actually a nice and reasonably priced hotel
We were looking for a decent place to stay in Albuquerque that is reasonably close to everything (downtown, airport, etc). The Plaza Inn was a decent choice that was reasonably priced.
Pros:
- 4 miles from airport, and 5 minutes from downtown
- gym (very tiny one)
- indoor swimming pool and spa
- breakfast in the morning (very average, but something to fill you up)
- courteous staff
- free wired internet access in-room and wireless access in the lobby
- decent rooms, with A.C./heater
- fridge and microwave in the room
- 27" TV with cable, and a DVD player
- free rental DVDs
- conference rooms available (but we never used them)
Cons:
- bathroom was substandard (shower was painfully slow)
- not enough lighting in the rooms at night
Things to note:
- We booked our room over their website, and even received a confirmation email, but the hotel had no record of it. Remember to call the hotel to confirm your reservation
- We did not ask for room service in the 3 nights we stayed, so we don't know how good/bad it is
Overall, recommended if you're looking for decent amenities and service without any frills.
Great hotel in a pinch
We missed our flight and the airlines sent us here. They provide a free shuttle and a basic breakfast. The lobby has free popcorn, a free soda fountain and free DVD's to rent. Our room on the 5th floor had a nice view of the mountains and a small patio with 2 chairs. Unfortunately you had to look past the freeway to enjoy the view. When the air conditioner cycled on, it drowned out the noise from the freeway. Our room had fridge/micro unit. There is only 1 ice machine for the entire building. The pool is indoors. If you like to walk, there are beautiful homes built from 1920 to 1990 nearby. The university and hospital are nearby. No businesses or restaurants to walk to.
What A Dump!!!!!!
RUN AWAY...FAST. This is the most disgusting hotel we have ever stayed at. If we hadn't already driven 12 hours and weren't dog tired we would have checked out and gone else where. The rooms are filthy, run down and stink of who knows what!!! The staff is horrible. The parking lot is a joke, broken glass abounds, spaces are tight AND one of THEIR van drivers hit another car in the lot, denied it to the guest, but when guests went to front desk, driver said it wasn't his fault, WHATEVER!!!
A good palce to stay
Stayed 2 nights here to visit the Balloon Festival.
Room was clean & tidy. Excellent service from the courtesy bus to take us to the Park & Ride & Oldtown Albuquerque. The adjoining restaurant served good quality meals at reasonable prices. Staff were very efficient & friendly. Hotel was easy to find & visible from interstate. Would use this again.
Great Stay!
We had a wonderful stay. Those people really know how to treat their guests. We felt a very warm feeling instantly as we got on their shuttle from the airport. Our rooms were very comfortable and clean.
They have about the same ammenities (if not more) than the Hyatt's, Hilton's, Sheratons without the inflated pricetag. My children especially enjoyed the large pool and game room. We liked the convenience of the restaurant and lounge. A big plus was their transportation to area attractions. When we return again next year, we will definitely will stay there again.
I don't understand the bad reviews!
I don't understand the bad reviews. Well, I understand how negative and critical people can be rather than making the best of a situation. But, I didn't have to make the best of my situation here in the slightest.
The Plaza Inn is a great hotel. The rooms were clean and well kept. The bathrooms were sparkling and the towels were more on the soft side than more expensive hotels I've stayed in. The ony gripe; I would have loved having a mini-bar.The pool wasn't heated but the jacuzzi was. Only a mini-bar beer would have topped off that experience. The exercise room was a bit small but I enjoyed a nice morning jog in the surrounding univeristy neighborhood. A very nice part of town indeed!I was in town for a conference and very much enjoyed the service, conti breakfast, and the free rides and pickups around town, especially late at night.
All in all, I give this place 4 'dots.' Better than average for sure, but certainly not the Plaza in New York.
Excellent - I stay here 8 nts./month, always wonderful
Have business in Albuquerque every week. I always stay at the Plaza Inn.
I read the first two reviews and quite frankly I was shocked because I have never experienced a bad stay.
Rooms have always been clean. Nice pool and spa, not to mention breakfast and popcorn/sodas.
Disgusting
all I can I say is disgusting. If it was not midnight when I arrived-I would have checked out immediately. I can't beleive they passed inspection!
Hated it!!!!!!
The hotel staff is very rude. Our room was not cleaned very well. We would never stay there again.
Would Return for the Refreshments!
For me, the highlight of the Plaza Inn was the free refreshment area in the lobby where soda, coffee and fresh-popped popcorn could be found. The rooms could use some renovation. Use of the indoor pool caused excessive water accumulation in the elevators on that side of the building. During my visit, the sundeck was shaded for the majority of the day -- not to mention that it was much smaller than expected. The hotel was not what I expected after looking at the photos on the website, but my stay was good, overall, considering the reasonable rates, helpful staff, central location and easy access to the highway. I would consider a second stay if in the ABQ area in the future.

On to Albuquerque
I drove to Albuquerque today. I met up my family at the hotel. We're here for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. It runs from tomorrow, 10/2/10, until next Sunday, 10/10/10.
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta
I got up very early and went with my family to the pickup point for the shuttle to the Balloon Fiesta. We got there sometime around 5:30 and there was a huge line. Someone announced that the busses were being held up by Homeland Security and that the people at the end of the line - that would be us - weren't going to make it to the Balloon Fiesta …
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta day 2
We got up REALLY early and drove to the venue. It costs $10 to park but, as long as we get there early enough to beat the peak crowds, it's much more convenient for us so it's worth it. We got in, found a place to sit and watched as they set up 10 balloons. When they were all inflated and nearly ready for lift-off they would fire all of the burners …
