    Pulling Tea and Dive Photos

At the longhouse we had quite an evening of entertainment. The girls showed the traditional dance moves accompanied by the musicians. See Pip taking lethal aim and the blow dart in flight (photo courtesy of Dave C).

I quite liked drinking pulled tea. See the video for an expert demonstration on how to make it.

Then there's some dive photos. I love tropical sea diving; so warm, relaxing and you get to see so much.

Sorry for the lack of blogs in the last few days. Have spent most of my time in the hospital, or in the gym! Today however, we decided to get out and explore a bit more of the area. Sabah state is famous for it's Orang-utans. It has two sanctuaries, one deep near the eastern coast, which has rehabilitated 38 monkeys so far, while the other, a much smaller reserve, is a newer sister company, founded as part of the Shangri-la Rasa Ria resort. We arrived, after a ...

... half an hour playing Plague until the 57 bus came and took us (via a very indirect route) to Empire Hotel. The place was gargantuan and takes up several hectares. We enjoyed some Wifi then went outside and looked around for a bit, soaked up the sun and saw a monitor lizard near the rocks at the Western beach. We lazed about for a few hours before being picked up by HJ Ahmed at 5:45 who drove us to the Gadong night market at 6, I got some ...

... at the price of beer but Wasif knew of a cafe with cheap beer (for locals) so we had planned for the driver, him and me to finish off the day over a beer or two. The driver dropped us at the door and he went to park. He was a strict Muslim so I bought him Coke instead. Wasif and I had beer at the local price because he knew them, 30p a can, what a difference! It was a lovely end to the day and I learned so much about their culture from them, and vice ...

    Beach day and pub quiz

A travel blog entry by cramow on May 07, 2014

... annoying as the bites are bumming itchy despite taking antihistamines and steroid cream. We caught the bus back and got ready for the pub quiz at el centre tonight. We luckily managed to get there just before it got busy and I enjoyed my sausage and mash before the quiz started. We did pretty rubbish tonight, coming around middle of the park in each round but it was still good fun and our last quiz all together as Ahmed leaves to fly back home this ...
