There were numerous roadworks along the way and we were becoming very familiar with the sign 'desvio' (diversion) and the resultant rough roads, which were not to the van's liking. Had spotted a campsite in Hualfin near thermals on map and decided to head for it as the road was increasingly difficult to traverse. We followed the correct route but it took us down to a river that we supposedly had to cross. It was dark by now and all we could see were lots ...

Monday's activity was to visit Iruya (2,780m), about 3 hours by bus away. I was pleased to see the bus had windows that could be opened, I would be able to take some photos of the scenery along the way. ... I marvel at how many people Ivana knows. It shows how much more you engage with your neighborhood when you travel on foot rather than locked inside an impersonal car.

We arrive at the convent to begin the meeting of Ivana’s family. Her mother, sisters, brothers and their families/friends join us for a delicious traditional Italian lunch (her family immigrated to South America from Italy). We are served delicious chicken and beef Milanese, pounded ...
