We took a 28hour train from Chengdu to Guilin in order for us to effectively to finish what we didn't get to do on our last trip. Guilin is a hot and humid place...and a little grubby I thought. We have come here for 1 day solely to arrange our river cruise down the li river and ultimately to our destination - Yang Shou!

We went to see the Elephant Trunk Scenic Area, and if anyone is planning on coming to Guilin - don't bother which this (haha!)

Cue another hectic day of travelling involving bus back to Guilin (met really nice english couple, the guy from which used to go out with my classmate from school!), then an overnight train way over to the West, playing poker with some aussies and their tour guide. Aussies being awfully familiar, Scott gets the remark "Scotty, you're a sneaky little f*cker" when he sharks a poker move, which he takes remarkably well.

Got up lesurely, went for a very average breakfast, the worst cup of coffee I have ever tasted, and a game of pool on the poorest pool table in existence. Though I still beat Will 2-0 so it wasnt that bad. Damian came and picked us up from our otel and we headed back to Yangshou. I think he missed us quite a bit during the past 2 days. Had some time to spare before our 5pm train to Kunming so played a few more games of pool and found a retro arcade place on the level above it. Will ...

We flew into Guilin to do another cruise down a river. This one was a tad smaller than the Yangtze but otherwise fairly similar although we did see more wildlife so the river must be cleaner. The boat's own literature said "the jade river wound its way through grotesque karsts of limestone", a tad harsh perhaps! I think you'll get the picture when you see them.
