... with the volcanic mountains in the background it could easily pass for "La Antigua". What I especially like about 'santa cruz” which is the main city on the island of la palma is the locals intermingle with the tourists since this is a small place so I can definitely get that Spanish feel that I missed in Benalmadena on the costa del sol.
There is one very long street that is for pedestrians only which already has my seal of approval since we ...
We travelled through the arid countryside of a national park. We had very little fuel and there was no sign of human life let alone petrol stations. We programmed Jessica and she found the only fiilling station in the area 8 miles from empty. We will from now on only travel with at least half a tank.
The campsite at Vila Real de Santo Antonio was vast but proved quite difficult to find a spot because of the ...

The campsite we went to was nice, but quite large as far as the campsites we had been to so far on the trip. It had nice bathrooms and people were quite friendly. The first plot we were given was too small for both the car and the tent, which is pretty crazy given the small car and tent we have. We also were the only ones in the 60 plots or so in the area we could see. Kevin went back and like most places they told us which ...
... older of the two bridges crossing the Rio Odiel, the Punta Umbria. Changes to the road layout made this a little more difficult than expected but soon I picked up a sign and looked out for the promised cycleway that would see me safely across. Sure enough there was the tell-tale red surface and a gap in the traffic allowed me to slip onto the cycleway nicely. As I made my way across the long bridge the view across the sun-lit water was lovely and it was ...
Vila Real de Santo Antonio, Portugal jamie_pete... I crossed the Rio Tinto I knew that I had completed the majority of the ride. (Red River: named because it is actually red from the copper deposits up in the sierra. Ever heard of the UK company Rio Tinto Zinc? Well this is where it got the first two thirds of its name. There is even an area of English style Victorian houses in Huelva that housed the British miners!) I was delighted to ride up to the hotel, especially ...
Huelva, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands jamie_pete... of Jerez, El Puerto and Sanlucar de Barrameda, a small area by wine standards, about 30 km each side. El Puerto hosts several Bodegas, the three most well known perhaps being Osborne, Terry and Caballero. The Osborne symbol is the silhouette of a bull, the black one seen on so many hills and roundabouts in the region. It should not of course be confused with the other black bull silhouette, the symbol of Spain, which ...
El Rocio, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands oldagetravellerARRIVED from Huelva ariived here kinda late (no train to lisbon until morning) so, sleep outside the train station with the gypsy family right next to it and get a train in the morning, or spend most of my dwindling funds on a night bus to Lisbon? i had ...
no idea, Portugal -scooter... great John Giorno after we appeared with him in Pitigliano, Italy last fall. The organizers are glad to see us, check us into the 4-star NH Viapol Hotel and walk us down into the Centro of town to treat us to a big meal of tapas and wine. They seem a little tentative toward us, as if they don't really know what we're going to do but it should be interesting. The producers of the festival are from Madrid and Majorca, but the house production chief is a ...
Seville, Spain johnsinclair... the walking tour they split them up but it was the same tour company. I was about 4 groups behind her. Our tour guide was Carmen. I don't think I captured many pictures of her. She was a beautiful woman who wore a lot of red and high heels (again, think cobblestone sidewalks), I admired her. Many men nearly gave themselves whiplash turning to look at her, and she ignored them as we moved on our way. We toured a square where there was a hospital that was ...
