What Happened in Spain Part II

... and then there was Shannon. She was actually the one of the first people I met here in Cordoba, and I remember I accidently called her by another name the day after I met her. That's definitely a mistake I haven't repeated!!! But lets see, a few groups of students ended up grouping together on the train since we were all headed towards the same destination. One word sums up the reason why Cadiz became such a popular destination amongst the ...

Day with the Host Family

So today we didn't have an excursion because we had our own private tour guides in Rachel's host family from three years ago. They met us at the pier and were so happy to see Rachel it was great! They took us on a walking tour of historic Cadiz and we had breakfast at one of their places they like and we had churros an coffee with milk. Loly knew everyone we walked by it seemed and although they spoke no English and we speak little Spanish we were ...

Sherry Tasting and the Andalusian Horses

... of the sweetest sherry called "Nectar" for 8 Euro. I really didn’t like their regular sherry though. They were pretty cool though. When celebrities or royalty come visit, they have them sign a barrel of Tio Pepe instead of signing a guestbook! And they have a family of mice that are sherry connoisseurs. One of the distillery ...

Dancing horses

We got up really early (for us vacationers). It was about 8:15am. We decided we would drive 2 hours to a city called Jerez de la Frontera to see the famous dancing horses of Jerez. The tour guide said it was worth the drive... We arrived to another city. Not as big as Seville, but a city nonetheless. Shae was super excited to see the dancing horses. The show started at noon and lasted 1.5 hours. Shae lasted about 20 minutes - which was pretty good for her ...

The Cadiz carnaval

... where we bought a few cans of the Cruzcampo beer and a 1.5 L bottle of Tinto de Verano - a type of cheap red wine with lemonade. We went to see the pier with the Castillo de San Sebastian, the Castillo de Santa Catalina, the cathedral, the old town and the beautiful Parque Genoves with waterfalls and parrots, and it was pretty much everything, so we went to the famous la Caleta beach and enjoyed ourselves there.

To my surprise, the beach was full of people ...

Rota

... seeds and spat the kernels into the street, to be crunched under(bare)foot by the processions. People shouted through the silences to their friends across the street, or weaved among the marchers to greet friends. It was an odd contrast, the vicarious but slightly distasteful crowd and the solemnity and peseverence of the marchers. and on the heels of the last of members of the processions came the vendors... A week of pure relaxation, and more than that an insight into more or ...

In the US Navy

... that was one reason they were not learning the language either. We talked about what it is like to be in the navy and learned that Kevin, tho he has been there for a long time, has never even been on a ship! Nicole had but said that her 6 month ship experience was such a controlled stressful environment (for women especially) that she doesn't think she wants to do it again. I felt sad for them because after talking to a few people about it all, they said they would leave if they could ...

New Planet

... star because of its sheer size and its constant brightness. We couldn't find it in Jamis astronomy book so we all decided that it was a UFO. I told them that it was probably here for me as I had ordered a ride home quite a while ago...it is about time they showed up! Today I am thankful for stars. They remind me that there is so much mystery which means there is so much left to imagine. As all the stars fly in the sky, as many dreams exist to try.
