... and then try to eat it and drink the ocean water as it swam to shore from the boat. Clearly the dog and myself have a lot in common, as we have much to learn about this crazy world. Going out on his boat was pretty fun, exploring secluded islands in the Intercoastal waterway of the Atlantic, kneeboarding, tubing, getting tossed off the tube at 30 mph, drinking, fishing, good ...

THE FINAL CHAPTER

May 25, 2009 - The Great Bahamian Escape

Dave was up the earliest I've seen him - 6AM - today is our leaving Green Turtle Cay day and he's obviously anxious to leave. Carroll doesn't come in until 7:30 AM so that gives Dave his 90 minute start-up time he requires each morning.

Just around 7:30 AM it poured. As I cooked up bacon Dave opened the companionway flap and a battalion of commando flies swooped down through the companionway and ...

Day 3

A more casual day today. Set off from Cocoa Beach and drove down the A1A (ie not the fast interstate road) adjacent to the coast. The journey is along a series of islands connected by bridges and very picturesque. Stopped off at Sebastian Inlet (a state park). Plenty of pelicans, herons, stone terns and other birds. A few people surfing and many others fishing. Weather has been gloriously hot - well into the 80s.

Preparing for the survey.

I arrived in Stuart, FL and was immediately put to work. My main job was to prepare two large shipping containers to be placed on the back deck of the boat for the survey. This is the easiest way to ensure a quick setup when the boat arrives. Check the pictures for more explaination if you've never been in a "dog house". The set up of the ...

Jays wins the battle but I win the war

... to the max, and Jay had lost his baseball, so we got out and returned to the room to get showered and changed. We went to a place called the Ponderosa for tea, where they were serving the usual all-you-can-eat, which meant that we left there stuffed. We had an early start the next morning, so went back to the room early to pack and sort ourselves out for tomorrow. Jay phoned a taxi company to order a lift to the bus station in the ...

Florida Interlude

... had a nice week , taking care of some van problems-alignment, replacing a couple of tires that had started to separate, spending time on the beach which was a short walk from my grandmother's. I did two paintings, one near the House of Refuge-that is for turtles and another in the savannas. My grandmother bought a couple of paintings. I also did a number of sketches ...

I Reach MY Florida Destination

... Cocoa Beach. They put on a good face in their adds because they want your money but they really hate tourists and will back it up with their police state mentality. If you are thinking of going to Daytona Beach-don't. Now back to the current story. After checking out soe of the old spots in Cocoa Beach I followed the coast on dow to Jensen Beach where my grandmother lived. I'll combine all the days ...
