    ... backroad in total darkness other than my headlights.. no where to pull off so they can pass me.. oh well... Took a couple of wrong traffic circle exits but figured it out soon enough.

    Thunder, lightening, rain. No early morning bike ride today.

    Once the weather eased to just steady rain, headed off to follow the Serchio River Valley up into the mountains.     ... there were no hassles at all! My friend Luca, picked me up from the airport past midnight. It wasn't too long a drive to the city centre. I dropped my stuff at the apartment -- all to myself -- and quickly headed out for drinks and very late dinner. It is not uncommon in Italy. There were plenty of places open at past 2AM.
