Heading toward Iowa

Sheila and I left South Fork today at 7:00AM heading back to Iowa. Attached you will see a picture of Pike's Peak. Also in the picture is a speed limit sign from I-25. While I do not drive the maximum speed limit when pulling the coach, today was a bit unique. With the speed limit of 75 mph, we averaged about 20 mph. Our lesson learned ...

... pelican-like beaks of our lazy cranes. The second guide did note, however, that there were only 100 breeding pairs of these white whooping cranes left. Could our scrum of about 25 birds been a quarter of the world’s population of whooping cranes? As the saying goes in birding, “If you hear hoof beats, think horse not zebra.” And the companion saying, ”If it looks like a pelican, walks like a pelican……”

... awhile but with every day and especially 15 days it is a little tender. :) :)  Thank god the beds usually have pillow tops!  Left Colorado this morning and traveled thru Vail and a couple of ski areas along route 70.  Air temperature 49 degrees moving at around 70-75 it was chilly too say the least.  When we got to our 1st gas stop about 2 hours later Shane said he was cold, so you know it was cold!  Colorado is ...

We made it to Maggie's hometown of Ainsworth around 5pm, and were welcomed by her brother Larry, sister-in-law Judy, and nephew Dave (affectionately known around town as Simp or Screech). Also, we were fortunate that the prevailing winds were from the south, so no nasty smells from the cattle feedlots north of town. We can only hope it stays that way. Early this morning we (yes, Maggie, too) biked 11 miles around Johnson Lake, and this time with a tour guide. One of the locals rode with us through the fog to show us new parts of the trail.
