          Had a good trip yesterday, the majority of it was on the A75 which is dual carriageway, unfortunately using local roads would have taken far too long. The road was fairly quiet but as the altitude increased so did the thickness of fog which we were in for about 30 miles then we were back in brilliant sunshine. Looking out of the van window now the sunshine is about to continue today.

          From Girona we took a secondary road to Figueres, through pleasant farming country with views of some of the smaller Pyrenees outliers. Figueres is the birthplace of artist Salvador Dali and the place where he established his famous theatre museum. He set this up between 1961-74 in a series of grand buildings that had been semi-ruined in the Civil War. It was amazing to turn into the street and see the main big pink ...

We went to the history museum that displayed materials from Roman times onwards, but it as an inadequate account compared with the impressive displays and curating at the Catalonian history museum in Barcelona. The Jewish museum in Girona seemed to be the best one.

          ... water seemed pretty warm and we tried to guess what it was we settled on 23C, a January sea temperature in Oman. I went off to interrogate the life guard and was surprised to discover it was only 19C; it must have been a heck of a lot lower in Brittany.
