... slaying a fearsome beast to redeem the hero's honour,
- a belief that they are the fires that lit the first Olympic torch - after all, Mount Olympos is just up the road (The Greeks dispute that one)
- to the scientific explanation of gases escaping from metamorphic rock.
Whichever way you look at it, the fact that the fires have burnt for eons is "magic" and we're lucky to have seen it before the gas runs out.

... to drive me to Mount Chimaera to see the Eternal Flames of the Chimera, natural gas flames that have been coming out of the mountain for centuries. It's best to go at night, so the flames are visible. The hike up is a broken road, climbing small boulders and gravel. He tried holding my hand to help me, but it got too awkward! I don' t need your hand! Plus it's flat now! Why are you still holding it? The heck?  We used our phones to see the path ...

Spent our 2 days here relaxing on the cushions under the shade at Bayrams and swimming at the beach. A nice reprieve! The people were friendly, the free dinners delicious and the surroundings beautiful.

Our one visit was to the Chimerea, a cluster of flames that blaze spontaneously from crevices on the rocky slopes of Mt Olympos. Travelling by ...

... It turns out Olympos is the place to teach new card games, so we gave it a try with both euka and canister, the ages really vary on our trip so keeping everyone entertained. Turns out we were more successful at teaching people canister than euka, but not to worry, Steve and I can keep that one to ourselves.
